Restaurant marks third Decatur closure within 7 days.

Rail Kitchen & Bar has closed.

Originally called Farmstead 303, the restaurant at 303 East Howard Avenue reinvented itself by changing its name and menu.

Teri Shea, the restaurant’s owner, announce Rail Kitchen & Bar would close in a Facebook post Tuesday.

“After a year and a half, I have decided to close the doors of this project. It has been a great experience as well as a learning one,” Shea said in the Facebook post. “With today’s challenging economy, it has proven difficult for me to support two ventures at the same time.”

Shea owns and operates Feast which recently celebrated its 6 anniversary.

Rail joins Cakes & Ale and Watershed Restaurant, both scheduled to close this week.

  1. In typical negative “What Now Atlanta” fashion, the relocation of Cakes and Ale to a larger space is hyped as “closing”, but in reality the restaurant is just relocating to a larger venue and adding new bakery space.

  2. “Rail joins Cakes & Ale and Watershed Restaurant, both scheduled to close this week.”

This sentence is sloppy at best and misleading at worst.

Closing implies that a business is, well, closing. Relocating less than a mile away doesn’t qualify.

Have you seen the new Cakes & Ale space? It hardly looks like they are closing.

  3. Cakes and Ale just got writen up as the 3rd best restaurant in the Atlanta area. They are re-opening in the coming weeks at a new, larger, nicer location. That is not a closing. Seems like typical local news trying to make a story out of nothing. Rail never had a chance. It wasn’t good on any level. Watershed is also relocating with less definiteness than Cakes and Ale but are still claiming to reopen in Midtown.
