Queen of Cream Permanently Closes Poncey-Highland Store Due To ‘Devastating Effects of COVID-19’

Owner Cora Cotrim Wednesday announced the news on the ice cream shop's Facebook

Queen of Cream has permanently closed the doors to its Poncey-Highland ice cream shop, at 702 Cleburne Terrace NE. Owner Cora Cotrim announced the news on the company’s Facebook page Wednesday. “To our dearest friends, it is with incredible sadness that we announce the permanent closure of our Plaza on Ponce store,” according to the announcement. “Unfortunately, due to the devastating effects of COVID-19, we are no longer able to support the retail arm of our business.”

This was the last storefront for Queen of Cream which earlier this year said goodbye to its Lenox Square and Phipps Plaza locations, both of which were opened in partnership with Revelator Coffee.

But Cotrim’s Atlanta-born Queen of Cream isn’t going away completely. Instead of operating brick-and-mortars, Cotrim “will continue to focus our energy and efforts on groceries, online sales, and catering,” according to the announcement. “We would like to first and foremost thank our current and past staff! We have loved you all and you will always hold a special place in our hearts.”

Queen of Cream hasn’t been open that long in Poncey-Highland, having only debuted the shop last year. The company’s original Old Fourth Ward outpost has been out of commission for some time now.

  1. What’s really upsetting is that Highland Row is a collective space, there are dozens of small and independent local businesses operating through their storefront. Those are all Atlanta people who don’t have the resources to run their own stores but can have a business by being part of this organization. And now all those people have to close down at the busiest time of year and figure out how to move all their stuff in the middle of the holiday season. And for what?

    1. I totally agree with you & shame on the new owners to expect a business to pay an increase of 450%! I really hope Highland Row Antiques can find another place to rent or buy!
