P’s And Q’s Restaurant To Anchor New Wylie Hotel In Old Fourth Ward

Redevelopment project from Kim King Associates is expected to make its debut in early 2021, is being led by former Hotel Clermont GM Alan Rae.

Kim King Associates’ incoming boutique Old Fourth Ward hotel has a name and a restaurant, What Now Atlanta (WNA) uncovered Friday. It will be called Wylie Hotel and its in-house restaurant will be P’s And Q’s. Both are expected to debut in early 2021, at 551 Ponce de Leon Avenue.

Former Hotel Clermont General Manager Alan Rae has been brought on to open Wylie Hotel and with him brought Director of Sales Liz Young, also formerly of the nearby hotel.

In contrast to Hotel Clermont, Wylie hotel will be “a little more business-focused,” Rae told WNA in a telephone interview. “A little more buttoned-up, polished, and sophisticated, so not a direct competitor. There’s room for both players in this market.”

Details on the incoming 112-room Wylie Hotel are “still coming together,” Rae said. “Several elements are still in development and we’re keeping an eye on what’s happening in the market and in the world in general, and adapting accordingly.”

One thing is clear, however, and that is that the hotel plans on being neighborhood-centric. “The history of the building and the neighborhood will guide everything we do,” Rae said. “As we formulate the amenities and the service, Old Fourth Ward’s history will be our guiding light.”

In keeping with that mission, Wylie Hotel’s in-house restaurant P’s And Q’s, which will be managed and operated as part of the property, will pay homage to gay bar Mrs. P’s and MJQ Concourse, both of which were formerly housed in the building which at the time operated as a residential hotel. “The restaurant’s name is a play on the phrase ‘mind your ps and qs,’ but also incorporates Mrs. P’s and MJQ,” Rae said. “There were a lot of letters to play around with in connecting this restaurant to the history of the building.”

All else, including the menu and design, are still in the works. As for the hotel itself which is under construction, Rae thinks it should top off by the end of the year.

    1. I think it’s a little low to be Poncey-Highland although it’s kinda on the cusp of a few neighborhoods.
And I’m not sure it’s actually O4W either– it seems like O4W would end when you cross North Ave.
I’ve heard that area called Midtown, and the shopping center is Midtown Place– so maybe it’s the beginning of Midtown.
