The developer presented a revised design for the project, which includes two ground-floor retail spaces, along with requests for several administrative variations, each of which went unopposed by the DRC. Two DRC members voiced preferences for an aesthetic presented earlier but still said they still found Portman’s current design appealing.

“I do like this one,” DRC member Kristin Halloran said of the current design, citing its balconies and parking screening. “But there was something about the previous renderings that I liked a little bit more.”

The project would rise at 667 Auburn Avenue NE on a 1.38-acre site just southeast of the intersection of Auburn Avenue and Irwin Street and just across the BeltLine Eastside Trail from Asana Partners’ Krog District projects. The site is just north of the Studioplex project.

Portman Holdings Vice President of Development Mike Greene said during the presentation that the developer was hoping to begin work at the site in December.

The company previously planned to develop a boutique hotel at the site, but it went on to drop those plans amid the COVID-19 pandemic, the Atlanta Business Chronicle reported in April.

The latest project plans call for 206 on-site parking spaces.
