Planet Fitness will be joining Floor & Decor at The Atlantic Shopping Center, a Paces Properties redevelopment project, at 1599 Memorial Drive in Kirkwood.
“We are hoping to start our buildout in February for a mid-May opening,” a spokesperson for Alder Partners LLC, the location’s franchisee, shared with What Now Atlanta over an email.
According to official filings with the City, an estimated $850,000 will be spent building out a new 19,800-square-foot Planet Fitness as a co-anchor tenant within the adaptive-reuse project, originally built in 1962.
The “Judgement Free Zone” neighborhood fitness chain for the casual gym-goer has 12 locations in metro Atlanta locations in Decatur, Smyrna and Stone Mountain, but the nearest one to the forthcoming Kirkwood club is due west, off the I-20 at the Mall of West End.
Paces, also the developer of Krog Street Market, and both Atlanta Dairies and Larkin on Memorial, bought the property in 2016.
The purchase continues the surge of investment and interest in Memorial Drive and the surrounding in-town neighborhoods—Kirkwood, Oakhurst, Decatur, East Atlanta, Ormewood, and Candler Park.
