The pizzeria will open at Tech Plaza, according to a permit filed with City of Atlanta last week.

The shopping center, at the corner of Hemphill Avenue and 10th Street, is located across the street from the Georgia Institute of Technology.

An estimated $145,555 will be spent on tenant finishes to the 1,080-square-foot space, according to the permit.

Rocky Mountain Pizza and Antico Pizza, two popular independent pizzerias, are both located nearby on Hemphill Avenue.

Pizza Hut was not immediately available for comment.

  1. Wow. What a stupid, stupid location for yet another pizza joint. Less than 100 m away there’s Rocky Mountain Pizza and just a little farther you have Antico Pizza Napoletana. RMP has a full liquor license, a large variety of pizzas AND non-pizza items and the pizza at both RMP and APN is much, MUCH better than anything that Pizza Hut could hope to pull off their conveyor belt.

Go a bit farther east down 10th Street and you have Papa John’s, competing in the cheap-pizza-for-poor-college-student AND delivery categories.

And now some clueless franchisee is going to open a Pizza Hut within spitting distance of these well established places.. Pizza Hut’s pizza sucks, the wings are inedible. The brand is recognized but not as something good. PH is a place that a little league teams goes to get really awful pizza after a game.

You can order PH online. Yeah you can do that with both Papa John’s and RMP.

What do you give them? 6 months? 8 months? They might as well put up the nail salon sign when they open because that’s what the location will become before 2012 is over.

  2. Wow DrJay, tell us how you really feel! I think a Pizza Hut would be a suitable replacement for what used to be Pizza K. There are enough tech students to keep them in business.

Just by mentioning Antico you made your entire argument look ridiculous. Pizza Hut and Antico have two COMPLETELY different customer bases. You might as well have complained that Baraonda was just a little farther too.

  3. Yeah there are a lot of pizza choices in the area. But as someone that lives a block from Tech Plaza, I’m glad to see a new tenant come in. That place needs a facelift and more foot traffic. Pizza Hut might bring a bit of both.

  4. I am with you DrJay. They need something besides a food place at Tech Plaza, enough around already. Pizza is not going to work there, it will be a slow death though, Pizza K was there for what seemed like a decade. With all the mac’s and iphones a store that fixed those or catered to people with those at GT would work in my opinion.
