Sip, nosh and take in the Freedom Park Trail scenery with views from the restaurant's patio.

Field Day, a “cafe and patio bar” adjacent “grab-and-go market” and beer and wine shop Everyday, opens today, Wednesday, December 11, at 5 p.m., Co-Owner Rob Bouton told What Now Atlanta on a phone call.

Field Day and Everyday replace the now-shuttered Across The Street (ATS) Mexican restaurant and its adjacent market space, at 668 and 670 Highland Avenue NE.

More restaurant than cafe, Field Day, helmed by executive chef and co-owner Mike Pitts (formerly of Ford Fry/Beetlecat), will serve playful takes on sandwiches and burgers, and other fare ranging from Duck Confit to Grilled Cheese.

Sides like Zapps (Crawtator, salt, and vinegar, voodoo) and Boiled Peanuts in Mao Pao Broth make for filling accompaniments.

A late-night menu and future menu remixes are also afoot, according to Bouton.

David Petro, formerly of One Eared Stag, will serve as the bar manager.

“He’ll be serving inventive classic cocktails, all made with fresh in house ingredients as well as “cheap” beer—think pitchers and tallboys of Miller High Life along with his tasty handcrafted sodas,” Bouton shared in an email.

“There will be numerous hand-selected white and red wines served by the glass, as well as a few rosés. A larger variety will be available by the bottle as well as options through the Everyday Market.”

An Instagram commenter best described Field Day’s decor as looking like “sunshine on a rainy day,” and fittingly, its expansive back patio has views of the Freedom Park Trail and surrounding greenery.

“The idea is to fulfill a need in the neighborhood. We don’t want people to have to get in a car to grab fresh eggs or a light meal,” said Bouton.

“We want people to feel like it’s their place: A classic, no-frills, affordable neighborhood spot where you can go a couple of times a week.”

Rain or shine, Field Day, will be open 5 p.m. until 11 p.m. weeknights, 12 a.m. weekends and closes on Tuesdays.
