Buckhead movie theatre submits application for a building permit to undergo major remodel.

The AMC Theatre, located on the third level of  Phipps Plaza near the recently opened Legoland, is planning for a much needed facelift.

Kevin Pavilonis, the theatre’s general manager, submitted an application to City of Atlanta Tuesday for a building permit to make commercial alterations to the space inside the luxury mall.

The project will consist of an interior remodel to accommodate new recliner style seating, according to the permit. The walls, floors and ceiling finishes will also be “refreshed.”

An estimated $1,200,000 will be spent on renovations to the 50,060-square-foot theatre.

What Now Atlanta emailed Pavilonis for comment about the remodel Wednesday. He was not “authorized” to speak on behalf of the company.

It’s about time this theater received an upgrade.

Which happens first, these upgrades are completed or the work on Peacthree in front of Phipps is finished?

Sounds good as long as they don’t convert to stadium seating. I’m a fan of these older theaters like Phipps that have the pre-stadium seating. Maybe it’s a nostalgia thing.

I’d be happy if they just renovate the concession stand. I hate putting my own butter on my popcorn…

I was actually surprised that the movie theater wasn’t gutted for the Legoland space and the food court kept intact. The Legoland buildout bothers me visually.

Finally they will upgrade with good seats. I quit going there the moment Atlantic Station opened with better theaters and seating. I’d rather go to Phipps actually so that’s good news.
