Portman acquired the Downtown property earlier this year back from New York City-based mortgage servicer NorthStar Realty Finance Corp (Portman built the tower itself in 1965 as part of Peachtree Center.)
A building permit application was submitted to City of Atlanta Wednesday to kick off the conversion process. Seven existing office floors will become guest room levels, each with approximately 29 rooms, a total of 206 keys, according to the application.
The ground and second floors will be converted to accommodate the new hotel entry, an un-named restaurant, lobby, and entryway to connect the hotel to AmericasMart Building One at the ground floor.
Floors 10 through 27, approximately 290,000 square feet, will remain office space.
Downtown’s Hotel Indigo should open in 2015.
