Taking steps towards relocation, Sushi Hayakawa filed a building permit application with the Atlanta Department of City Planning on December 28, 2021 for the “interior build out” of its new restaurant space at 1055 Howell Mill Road, Suite 125. What Now Atlanta covered the move in August, which the popular sushi restaurant, owned and operated by Chef Atsushi Hayakawa, announced over social media.

Sushi Hayakawa first opened in 2008 and is now moving from its original brick-and-mortar at 5979 Buford Highway to Star Metals, the mixed-use district in West Midtown. Sushi Hayakawa to transform into an intimate, 8-seats sushiya, thereby allowing the eatery to provide a more traditional experience, which has been the aim since its inception. The fish is often sourced from Tokyo’s Toyosu market, as well as other markets around the globe.

We reached out to Chef Hayakawa for comment but did not hear back at the time of publication. Comments from the Sushi Hayakawa Instagram account, just five weeks ago, indicate an opening date for the relocated eatery has not been announced.

The building permit application reveals Sushi Hayakawa’s new restaurant will operate out of a just 1,275 square-foot space. The cost of construction is estimated at $315,000.
