TGI Friday’s on Peachtree Street is being demolished. The popular restaurant chain closed its Buckhead location in 2009.

A permit to demolish the restaurant was filed with City of Atlanta Thursday.

According to earlier reports from the AJC, a 50,000-square-foot medical office building will replace TGI Friday’s.

To demo the existing restaurant, Parkside Partners, the medical center’s owner, will spend $10,000.

The medical center is slated to begin construction later this summer.

  1. Hmm, a Friday’s didn’t work there, a Longhorn didn’t work there, a Mick’s/Vita/Thirsty Dog didn’t work there. See a pattern there Frank????

  2. Ummm…that longhorn was the very first and original when it opened there in the early 80s at a time when things were deteriorating. It succeeded and became a chain, but so what at least they had the vision to invest in that area when most every thing else was closing shop and leaving the city for the suburbs.

  3. TGI Friday’s had been there for quite a while. I recall it being there when I moved to Atlanta in 2000 so it had at least an eleven year run. I only ate there once because, well, because it’s TGI Friday’s. The service sucked but I kind of expect that from a chain. The only thing interesting about it is that due to the topography of the area, the building is on stilts. Maybe they’ll make it cheap to demolish since all you’ve got to do is cut the legs out from under it and let gravity do the rest.

  4. Yeah, but all three of those buildings Fridays, Longhorn and M/V/TD/FS are all in a stone’s throw from one another. Add to this the demolished/relocated Central City Tavern and one could argue that quarter mile on peachtree is a bad choice to open a restaurant in.

  5. It does seem to be a death row for restaurants recently. Of course, Benihana is somehow surviving.

  6. Can’t wait for Frank Ski’s new venture, right next to Justin’s, Houston’s and Genghis Grill. They should just call it Death Row. Benihana survives because it is a freak of nature, even zombies gotta eat.
