Taking 2300 Square Foot Space At Pencil Factory Lofts Downtown

The Pencil Factory Lofts located on Decatur Street downtown has secured several restaurants and shops slated to open in the next few months.

Caramba Café is on the line-up and is scheduled to re-open in November at 349-E Decatur Street.

Caramba Café unexpectedly closed June 12 (story here) when their lease at 1409D N. Highland Avenue expired. Originally opened in the Morningside area in 1988, Caramba Café was forced to close when the landlord increased the rent proposal during negotiations for a re-sign on the lease.

The owners behind Caramba Café explain on their website that securing building permits are part of the reason the re-opening is slated for November. That and the space will be a custom build-out.

Alongside Caramba Café, other restaurant concepts and shops opening at Pencil Factory Lofts include:

Hill Street Tavern: a restaurant opening under the owners of The Manchester Arms, a British pub located on Virginia Avenue in College Park.

Intown Market: offers a deli and large wine and beer selection.

Melange Hair Studio: a hair salon that also offers a Facebar for “cost effective skin care,” massage therapy, Juviderm and Botox, and facial waxing.

The Beignet Connection: a Creole Cajun restaurant.

Other concepts include Master Groome Barbershop, Scoop Ice Cream, and Mr. Blackwell’s Coffee.

  1. I really hope these restaurants succeed here. It will help re-vitalize the area. It’s still a very sketchy neighborhood and there are a massive about of people who think the Pencil Factory is a crapy place to live.

This area has so much potential and I for one will try out the Hill Street Tavern when it opens!

  2. This is so good to hear, and I agree with Chris, I really hope that this does help to restore this neighborhood.

  3. Doesn’t matter if you think they are rude or not…IT’S THE BEST MEXICAN IN TOWN!!!! I’ve MISEED my L3 w/Chk and Sandi’s dip 🙂 🙂
