Peachtree-Ponce Corner May Soon Be Home To 18-Story Hotel

Three corners at the intersection of Peachtree and Ponce in Midtown are each home to one of Atlanta’s most prized historic structures: The Fox Theater, The Georgian Terrace, and The Ponce.

A new 18 story hotel may soon stand at the southwest corner (also known as 640 Peachtree), currently a surface parking lot.

Initial plans for the project were presented to the Midtown Development Review Committee at a May 10 meeting.

The project is being designed by TVS Design, a firm collaborating on the forthcoming Mercedes-Benz Stadium. The developer of the hotel is currently unknown.

The hotel would include approximately 238 rooms (which may change slightly), a public parking deck, and ground floor retail and restaurant space.

The Peachtree-Ponce corner area would feature an opened-up space and mezzanine bar for street-front dining, offering patrons of the Fox a place to relax and people-watch before or after a show.

Committee members both expressed enthusiasm for the project and referenced the historic character of the intersection, suggesting that the project could reach full potential by further “complementing, framing or reflecting” the other buildings.

Architects said they are looking into using materials similar to those of the surrounding buildings.

More detailed plans will go before the committee again next month.

  1. I hope this project does not come to fruition. It will devalue the condominiums immediately south of the proposed site. The Windsor Over Peachtree features large balconies that have a wonderful view of the Atlanta skyline. If the 18 story hotel is built adjacent to the Windsor, our condos will look directly into hotel rooms. We will not be able to sell our condos for decent prices with a building a few feet away from our balconies.

    1. Then the condo should have bought that lot. With this kind of logic no high rise would ever be built.

    2. Haha wow… I didn’t think people like you still existed. You live in a major metro city and think your views will never be obstructed. Ignorance is bliss right?!

      News alert… Your building sucks anyway and the value of your condos has already peaked and plateaued. Your building is outdated and most units don’t even have W/D hookups. Not to mention the outrageous HOA fees associated with such a crappy and dated building. So, in fact, the hotel might actually be doing you a favor.

      1. Rude, the Windsor is someone’s home. It has character and is an original and a classic amongst generic Miami wannabes. It doesn’t take much to install a washer/dryer machine. Not to mention location, location, location! A New Yorker would pay cash for those Windsor units and probably full price.

        It will obstruct views but not the views of far west units. Which will probably decrease in price for the obstructed units (not by much, had it been an ocean view, then yes) and it will increase the value of the west units on the end who wont loose their view.

    1. As a native Atlantan, I remember as a kid, that corner, which had a wonderful Mid-Century Modern Franklin Simone store, with parking on the top. Thankfully, and hopefully, that now parking lot corner, will be raised. Hopefully the developer will incorporate a design, that fit’s in with the other buildings, at one of Atlanta’s greatest, historic intesections. As far as the old Peachtree North Apartment Building goes, it looks like Section 8. Not a fan of that ugly, outdated building. Rave on Midtown~

  2. Agree the Windsor Bldg at Peachtree and North is an eyesore, was hoping this hotel project was going to involve razing that horrible place with its sketchy retail.
