Since 2018, Taqueria El Tesoro has brought mezcal tastings, mulitas, tacos, and more to Atlanta. Owner Alan Raines started El Tesoro as a small, 14-seat counter service spot that has since grown into an Edgewood neighborhood destination. Today, the eatery seats 135 people and boasts a full bar and 7,000 square feet of patio.

Raines has a solution for such increasing popularity, and it comes in the form of a new eatery that is currently unnamed. The owner, in collaboration with Sam Eaves, will reportedly open a second restaurant in the space most recently occupied by Lawrence’s Café and Restaurant, a Lebanese café that closed down earlier this year after 32 years of business.

According to Eater Atlanta, Raines’ newest venture will be an intimate affair. The eatery will be open for dinner only and serve coastal cuisine from Chef Hugo Suastegui’s family and hometown of Acapulco. Alongside Acapulco-inspired dishes, the new eatery will serve a menu of handcrafted mezcal beverages from the same region. Chef Suastegui is currently the kitchen manager at El Tesoro, and El Tesoro has been hosting mezcal tastings that feature his dishes.
