Opening of 14th st. Bridge Aiding in Home Parks Master Plan, Muahaha

What was once a cool corner, the intersection of 14th and State Street in Home Park between Old Midtown and West Midtown, is now a noisy construction site — but don’t fret as it all fits into Home Park’s master plan, according to Michael Eric Gamble of G+G Architects. Gamble had been scouting out the area for sometime and when Kool Korners Sandwich Shop owner, ILdefonso Ramirez, relocated to his hometown in Alabama, Gamble purchased the space. The car wash across 14th Street is also being watched by Gamble for plans of mercantile/restaurant space.

With construction at a 75 percent completion, Gamble has almost finished renovating this mercantile building with enough space (8500 square footage) for 7 tenants. Jerry’s Barber Shop is all that remains of Kool Korner, and Gamble stresses that it will remain. Assisitng in Home Parks master plan to give the intersection a Virginia Highlands destination feel, koolkorners.com outlines big plans for Home Park:

The intersection of 14th and State Street is quickly becoming the heart of the West Midtown District. Kool Korner’s future includes the retention of long-standing tenant Jerry’s Barber Shop as well as an overall makeover of each building and tenant space. Along with the exterior, improvements to the buildings, streetscape improvements will adhere to the city’s new Urban designs and standards as well as local neighborhood planning guidelines — including areas for outdoor seating, new sidewalks, new trees, and street lamps. With a twenty-first century update, Kool Korners will become a destination point for both tenants and customers.

Detailed illustrations delineate what appears to be a very well planned landscape makeover to take the intersection from dull to “kool,” once again. With 14th Street Bridge in full function and the proximity to Georgia Tech, the location is destined for success.

Possible tenants? Gamble is in the process of recruiting another sandwich shop (Cuban — though Jimmy Johns is directly across State Street) in addition to some bars.
