  1. I think you need to take little trip there to see whats open. Your list for Town Brookhaven is not accurate when it comes to what’s open.

  2. Several of these, like Pub 71, Mellow Mushroom and Hudson Grill are not in Town Brookhaven but are down the street in another shopping center.

  3. MTN- I think there is already an independent coffee shop at Town Brookhaven. It is next to Noche. I forget the name of it but I drove by yesterday and saw it.

  4. FYI- per the Cafe at Pharr website, their Brookhaven location will be called “Baci Restaurant & Bar”.

Olive Bistro looks good. Very happy to have a Middle Eastern place in Brookhaven.

Also excited about Mali Thai & Sushi- their VaHi location has good reviews.

Which Wich is also a solid casual lunch place.

I’m getting very excited about this development!

  5. Brookhavenite: Wow, look at all these new shops we have!

City-Dweller: Aren’t they mostly just new locations of existing businesses, all of which are pretty blase to begin with?

Brookhavenite: No way! They’re new, because they just built them in this fancy new area, called Town!

City-Dweller: I’m pretty sure most of these places are chains

Brookhavenite: Oh, well that’s ok. I mean, look! frozen yogurt and another new restaurant with TV’s all over the place!

City-Dweller: Yeah, frozen yogurt is all over the place, and why would you want tv’s in the restaurants you eat in?

Brookhavenite: Because if I can’t continually dumb myself down with television, I might have to actually pay attention to this menu, or the people I’m with, which are about as creative and interesting as a DMV agent.

City-Dweller: You mean you don’t actually enjoy eating shitty sandwiches and salads, with ingredients you could find in Publix, for virtually every meal?

Brookhavenite: I’m happy, I have 3 empty bedrooms, and I own a home!

City-Dweller: You know there’s more to life than owning a home, right?

Brookhavenite: You mean like having lots of babies before I turn 30?

    City-Dweller: No.

Brookhavenite: You mean like going on vacation to Florida?

    City-Dweller: No.

Brookhavenite: You mean like eating stale tacos at verde, drinking cheap beer, and talking about our neighborhood of similar homes, or our babies, or our trips to Florida, where we laid on the beach for 6 straight days?

    City-Dweller: Nevermind. Enjoy your yogurt.

  6. The Cup opened last week (Wednesday I believe). High quality coffee beans and the cupcake I had was very good.

The eye place (called Reflections Eyecare or something) is already open as well.

A second boutique opened next to Boogaloos in the last couple weeks (I can’t remember the name, possibly the Collage place).

Brookhaven Bistro isn’t in Town Brookhaven (it is just south of Town Brookhaven on Peachtree).

LA Fitness isn’t open yet, but should be this summer sometime I believe.

CineBistro isn’t open yet either, but should be open sometime this spring/summer.

Valenza restaurant isn’t open (not even sure where it’s planned to go, unless you are thinking of the Valenza that is already open on Dresden).

Moes has been open for a while now.

Additionally, there is a dry cleaners that is open next to the Slacks.

There has been a lot of activity in the development lately, and a number of storefronts are having work done in them. I encourage everyone to swing by next time they are close by.

  7. They should add several Urban and Hip-Hop themed night clubs. That would REALLY attract alot of business.

  8. Woah, woah, woah here. Why is there NOT a BURGER PLACE here in Town??? Has the city got wind of that, yet? Doesn’t every developer know you must have a restaurant solely devoted to the hamburger now in order to pass code?

  9. Brookhavenite: Gee City Dweller, you seem to be in a really bad mood. Don’t you like it here in Brookhaven?

City-Dweller: Actually, it’s repulsive. I’d rather eat my own vomit than hang out here in one of these shitty restaurants with all of you lame, boring people.

Brookhavenite: Well, maybe you shouldn’t bother coming back here anymore if you hate it so much. After all, no one is forcing you to come here. We really don’t want anyone with such a hideously negative attitude out here anyway.

City-Dweller: I can go wherever I want and say whatever I want douchebag. I’m really much smarter than everyone else so the rest of you can eat me.

Brookhavenite: Never mind. I can see you really enjoy being a miserable ass hole. So you should just keep doing what you do best. Enjoy your misery!

  10. Brookhavenite: Oh, one more thing city dweller…I don’t really ever see you in Brookhaven, so what does it matter to you?

City-Dweller: You’re right, I don’t ever come to this neighborhood. I prefer places that don’t homogenize everything in sight. But since you asked, it matters to me, because there are progressive neighborhoods in Atlanta that have a lot of promise, independence, style, & creativity, and well, your neighborhood is just a bit of a stain on the rest of the city. You see, I know you and the rest of your buddies in Brookhaven are content eating at restaurants (save for Haven) with food that tastes like it came out of an easy-bake, having a social life that revolves around television, and having the cultural vision of someone who’s been in solitary confinement for several years. However, there are a lot of people in Atlanta who really don’t want to see our city turn into something like that, and that is why it matters.

  11. It’s funny – The common response is to ignore me. I suspect that response typically comes from those who don’t like what I say, but have nothing to offer in terms of a compelling counter-argument. It’s like what happens when people can’t understand the real news, and so they just turn the channel to Fox.

Of course, most of those that don’t like what I say probably feel that way, because they are the type of tasteless, middle-management people, whose most exciting thing they have to look forward to for the rest of their lives is an annual trip to The Bahamas; the type of people I most often criticize.

Truth is, I have no problem with that kind of life. Everyone has the right to choose to live their life how they want to. If someone wants to live their life in 1 of 4 mass produced floor plans, eating pre-cooked meals, and spending all their free time tending to their lawn, that’s their prerogative. However, cities – in the true sense of the word – have no place for people like that. Unfortunately, decades of piss poor officials in Atlanta have sold this city’s potential in exchange for votes from those whose societal contributions are marginal at best. So, I choose to speak my mind against it, and until someone can offer something more substantial than “ignore him”, I’m convinced I’m right.

  12. Urbanist, you’re right (as usual)…..you’re so worldly, successful, and cultured. I mean seriously, what government working webmaster from Kennesaw State isn’t? You are the man!!!!!

  13. Urbanist, everything you say is your opinion – it is neither right nor wrong. Nobody bothers to debate with you because you can’t have a conversation with someone who thinks they are ALWAYS right. Nobody likes people like you, so get used to it.

  14. Of course it’s my opinion, and of course some opinions are more subjective than others. For example, if I have a positive opinion of a particular restaurant, that doesn’t mean everyone else does. However, there are also some opinions that are based on observation and fact. For example, the observation that Atlanta has far too many condos, far too many parking lots, and far too much speculative development, but could benefit heavily from the development of urban apartments is an opinion. However, it is an opinion based on fact and professional expertise. If you disagree with that, that’s fine, but people (yourself included) tend to have the impulse to disagree for the sake of disagreeing, without really being able to point to anything factual that can support their disagreement.

Now, of course, the commentary I added here earlier was just me being an ass. I’m well aware that not everybody that lives in Brookhaven enjoys the mediocrity of that neighborhood. However, there are a lot of people that do, and a lot of people who embody the spirit of that conversation from above. So, if you, or anyone else, wants to think I’m a prick for pointing out something that exists (albeit, not in entirety) in Brookhaven, you’re free to think so.

Also, for clarifications sake, I don’t think I’m always right…but until someone can provide a sound argument that proves me wrong (instead of just saying “ignore him”), well, I kind of am…

  15. What does a webmaster know about the development of urban apartments? Stick to mastering the web.

  16. Urbanist,

Sorry that Atlanta isn’t your idea of a great city, and that the many small, different pockets of areas within the city suck. Some of us enjoy Brookhaven, Buckhead, Midtown, VaHi, etc for what they are. Please feel free to go to another city that may be more to your liking, such as New York City or Chicago.

    Thank you,

    The rest of us

  17. Urbanist:

Everyone has the right to choose to live their life how they want to. If someone wants to live their life in 1 of 4 mass produced floor plans, eating pre-cooked meals, and spending all their free time tending to their lawn, that’s their prerogative.

What a narrow viewpoint you have of our community.

This Brookhaven resident enjoys taking Marta to and from work, being able to walk to the outstanding new Publix so she can make homecooked meals, not spending time tending to her lawn since it’s the size of a postage stamp and full of plantings rather than grass, and living on a great street with friendly neighbors. Sounds somewhat urban, doesn’t it?

  18. Ouch. As a transplant from the northeast, I was excited to see Slacks Hoagie Shack in Atlanta. That’s about as far as it went. Major disappointment. My wife and I ate there three separate times, and each time was dismal, but kept wanting to give them another shot.
On two occasions, the hoagie roll on mine was FROZEN! Seriously, frozen bread? My wife’s antipasto salad came without lettuce, the server? Well, the polite thing to say is she just didn’t know what to do. Service is slow, food is so-so and the prices are way too high.
On our last visit, I finally complained and asked to see a manager. Our server went and retrieved a drunk man from the bar (it’s 1:15 PM), turns out, he was the owner! No wonder they have troubles. Speaking of owners; his wife is just a volatile, nasty lady. I’ve seen her go off on customers for no reason and toss them for complaining. She’s going to be the main reason they fail. Take some advice and get some decently trained help and keep that crazy lady away from the customers.

  19. So, Urbanist….. your opinion is severely irrelevant, so stop giving it! Chains are obviously popular, and aren’t going anywhere. I bet you’ve been to at least one chain. Publix is a chain, so is pretty much every popular clothing store out there, so unless you spend your life confined inside of Little Five Points, where there aren’t any chains, except Starbucks, then stay over there, and leave Town Brookhaven alone!

  20. We’ve been going to the Costco in Town Brookhaven for about a year now, and finally got around to checking out some of the reastaurants there, and almost all are better than average. The Old Blind Dog is a rather run of the mill, Irish themed bar with what you expect for “pub grub”. We really liked Stir Crazy, but they seemed to have disappeared. The two stand outs are Bua and There, both have exceptional food and the bison burger at There may be the best burger in all Atlanta. Noche is a fun place as well. All in all, I’d say it’s worth a trip to Town Brookhaven, check out the cool little shops and grab a bite at one of the non chain restaurants.
