The brand’s first location in the Peach State will open in Roswell. Per an Atlanta Business Chronicle report, the company is looking to lease a space in the city’s historic downtown. The café is tentatively scheduled to open next spring and will be owned and operated by franchisees Brooke and Dustin Logan.

Roswell is not the only city Summit is eyeing. The brand is also planning to open two more metro Atlanta locations in 2022, and intends to have 10 local cafes by 2025. Suburban areas with neighborhoods populated by young families and that are not yet saturated with specialty coffee shops are being targeted for locations.

The family population is important for the brand as it caters to customers with children. Its menu includes kid-friendly options, and locations offer crayons with branded coloring pages to young guests.

“Specialty coffee hasn’t always been the most approachable environment, where you can get an awesome cappuccino and also bring your 2-year-old,” CEO Brian Helfrich said. “We want that to be the case, which is why we think our brand resonates as much in suburban towns as anywhere.”

Started in 1998, Helfrich’s family bought the company in 2003 and operated its first (and only) location in Davidson until 2015. Since then, Summit has become a certified organic coffee roaster and sells its coffee wholesale to clients in 30 states. It currently has 12 North Carolina locations open or in development. Georgia will be its first out of state market, but Summit is also looking to expand to Virginia and South Carolina, as well.

Each Summit café is uniquely designed with chic aesthetics to have a local feel. Along with a rotation of drip coffees and a full espresso bar, the brand also serves locally made pastries, craft beers and wines.
