Restaurant Drowns In Its Own Watered Down Sauces

UPDATE (Sept. 16, 2011): ‘Cursed’ space in Midtown gets new restaurant

Located at 980 Piedmont avenue in Midtown, Nona Mia Cafe and Pizzeria is now closed after nearly one year in business.

Having opened in spring of 2009 in a space that wasn’t ever successful as a restaurant, we placed Nonna Mia on our DeathMarch back in January as a predicted cliff jumper– our way of saying, stop milking a dead cow!

The space, which looks like a trailer or greenhouse (you choose), was originally Sweet Devil Moon and years before that was The Big Red Tomato Bistro.

Lets not beat a dead horse here, but Nona Mia was destined for failure regardless of where they might have opened. Location as a primary factor in their closure is a poor excuse. The bottom line is the food wasn’t edible (for most). Nonna Mia was one tomato short of a good spaghetti sauce.

Cardboard chicken, overcooked spaghetti and ‘gelato’ with ice crystals makes for better reasoning. We’ll be dead upfront with Nona Mia: you will not be missed.
