Partners Ken Mansfield and Tanja McPeters have secured a lease for Nitrolicious in The Peach shopping center, at 2900 Peachtree Road NW.
Nitrolicious would open in a 1,200-square-foot space formerly occupied by Planet Smoothie.
Mansfield, a former Häagen-Dazs franchisee and “lover of ice cream, coffee, and cigars,” told What Now Atlanta (WNA) in a telephone interview Thursday that “nitrogen ice cream is better than any ice cream out there.”
“Liquid nitrogen makes ice cream smooth and creamy,” Mansfield said.
“But the ice cream base has to be really good too.”
At Nitrolicious, customers can dream up any flavor combination, he said.
“I’m literally the Willy Wonka of ice cream. If you can imagine it, you can have it.”
Mansfield predicts that Nitrolicious’ top three flavors would be Peach Cobbler, Banana Pudding with Nilla Wafers, and Strawberry Habanero.
All of this assuming Mansfield can source the liquid nitrogen and equipment needed for the new ice cream shop, he said.
Mansfield told WNA he is having trouble sourcing the materials needed to run the new businesses because of agreements between existing, well-known similar ice cream concepts and the leading providers of liquid nitrogen.
“I’m just a small town guy trying to open an ice cream store in Atlanta to provide the community with the best product,” Mansfield said.
“But because of big business, we may not open.”
If Mansfield is unable to secure the liquid nitrogen needed to run Nitrolicious to his standards, the restauranteur will pivot to a “regular ice cream shop.”
He’ll know by mid-July.
