“It will have a retail section as well, and the opening should be sometime in July 2016,” Kerem Abajebel, the concept’s owner, told What Now Atlanta (WNA) in a telephone conversation Friday.

Abajebel has managed Black Lion Enterprises, a meat market, for three years now. The new deli will also have a section that sells both frozen and fresh meats in bulk or personal servings.

The retail portion of the space may be ready before July, when the deli plans to open to the public. The 1,900-square-foot space will be converted from its current retail-only layout ahead of the move in.

Stay tuned for further information including the name and exact opening date as soon as that information becomes available.

  1. Glad to see new food stores opening in under-served areas. Something besides the run-of-the-mill convenience stores selling beer , cigarettes and lottery tickets.

  2. As a former City of Atlanta code enforcement officer assigned to that area back in 2008/09, I think the owner will be extreme challenged in his efforts to make this kind of business successful. But that said, I hope he is! Unfortunately, I drove through the area, and directly past this location last August, and little if anything, has changed since my days of working that “beat.” I wanted to stop by Bankhead Seafood at the intersection of West Lake Ave and Hollowell Pkwy….BEST FRIED FISH, HUSHPUPPIES, AND TARTER SAUCE IN THE WHOLE CITY!! But they were closed for the day. Nonetheless, blight, shuddered buildings, burned out structures, graffiti, trash, dirty tire and auto shops everywhere, grown men hanging out on street corners and in front of convenience stores…There is absolutely nothing about the area that is “feel good!” In fact, I think it’s gotten worse. All I wanted to do was get back on I-20! And that’s unfortunate. Who knows, maybe Mr. Abajebel’s deli will be the impetus for a positive transition. Keep us posted, WNA.
