Mill Creek Residential has inked a deal for Highland Bakery & Kitchen in its Modera by Mill Creek—Vinings property, according to a press release Tuesday.
The multi-family development this month is also beginning move-ins.
“As a company that got its start with a coffee cart, you could say Highland Bakery & Kitchen is keen on supporting communities that are conducive to an active, walkable lifestyle,“ Campbell Mitchell, who serves as the co-owner/operator of the forthcoming Highland Bakery franchise location with his wife, Bree, said in the release.
“Modera Vinings’ open, accessible retail plaza will be a great locale for the concept, and we can’t wait to bring Highland Bakery’s signature flair to the community and its residents.”
Expected to open in early 2019, Highland Bakery & Kitchen at Modera Vinings will offer a full breakfast and lunch menu, featuring many of the restaurant’s signature items, including sweet potato pancakes, shrimp and grits, fried chicken eggs benedict and fresh salads, in addition to coffee, smoothies, mimosas, bloody Marys and other adult beverages.
The restaurant will serve as the eleventh iteration of the Atlanta concept, joining the lineup of Highland Bakery locations in Old Fourth Ward, Midtown, Virginia Highland, Emory University, Georgia Tech, as well as other franchise locations in Decatur, Buckhead, downtown Atlanta and Peachtree City.
Highland Bakery will join Kale Me Crazy at Modera Vinings’ retail-activated boardwalk overlooking the nearby private pond.
Located at 3205 Cumberland Boulevard, Modera Vinings sits on 3.5 acres of land overlooking a private body of water, dubbed Crossroads Pond, at the trailhead of the Silver Comet Trail.
Designed in collaboration with Lord Aeck Sargent, the community features 269 apartment homes, including studio, one-, two- and three-bedroom residences located above 5,316 square feet of street-facing retail space.

Nice to have a Highland Bakery in the Smyrna/Cumberland/ Vinings community but poor location choice.
A bakery/restaurant buried in an apartment building with not street visibility when a location in or close to Cumberland Mall would be more accessible by car, foot or transit.
