Popular 905 Juniper Hot Spots Unexpectedly Close Their Doors

Midtown residents where shocked to find out that Lupe Taqueria and Beleza Lounge, the brainchildren of Riccardo Ullio, the mastermind behind the successful Sotto Sotto and Friti restaurant concepts, shut their doors this past Saturday, May 22.

In an effort to put their best foot forward, Ullio threw a grand closing party. We can only imagine how bittersweet that must have been for Ullio and the people who admired what he tried to bring to Midtown.

Rumor and speculation abound but no one truly knows why they closed. However, what now, atlanta? has cobbled together a variety of sources to give you this possible perspective: Lupe was well on its way to being profitable but Beleza never recovered even after their re-conception this past April. The bank who owned the mortgages, seeing an impossible situation, pulled the plug on the enterprises.

Stay tuned for more information, as we try to reach the principles in this developing story.

  1. Now that is a real shame. Lupe was a neat concept – very different from other Taquerias that I have been to. And fantastic margaritas.

  2. Although I don’t live at 905, I have many friends whom do, and we are all very saddened by the closing of LUPE. We loved Julie and Damien and their entire staff. It was such a better concept than Cuerno for the neighborhood, and much more affordable.

It was a great place to meet to get out of the building without venturing to far.

Rumor had it that it was due to some major A$&hole who lives in the building named Al who lives his life to complain. I’m glad to hear it was just our idiotic financial system merrily at work to destroy our economy. Business as usual.

Perhaps Riccardo Ullio will let us know which bank held the mortgage so we know not to patronize them with our business.

  3. Say it ain’t so! The world class chile rellenos and margaritas will be sadly missed. ¡Qué lástima!
