MARTA is moving forward with plans to redevelop its station on North Avenue into a Transit-Oriented Development (TOD).
JLL officially launched marketing for the opportunity by releasing a request for proposals (RFP) on Thursday.
“MARTA has considered TOD at this station for several years,” Jacob Vallo with MARTA, said in the announcement.
“We have a lot of faith in the long-term momentum of Midtown and are pleased to make this site available for development.”
The JLL team aims to secure a developer for a “signature tower project with direct multi-modal connectivity to MARTA’s rail and bus network” at the 1.5 acre-site bounded by Ponce de Leon Avenue, West Peachtree and North Avenue.
MARTA has several TOD projects underway including at its Avondale and Chamblee stations.
The public transport operator began its quest to create TODs at its stations with the release of a Request for Expressions of Interest (RFEI) in 2014 seeking “air rights” developers.
At the time, MARTA was specifically interested in proposals for its Arts Center, Lenox, Midtown, and North Avenue stations.
The above rendering, completed in summer 2014 by Emma Caldwell, Van Dang, Jordan Davis, Fiorella Sarita, and Angie Tran for the Gensler Atlanta Summer Internship, was a concept for the Midtown station.

As a resident of the building next door, it is my sincere hope that this redevelopment has MARTA finding a way to somehow nullify the transmission of the 100+ decibel loudspeaker announcement for the handicapped bus that starts around 5am and continues to around midnight, or maybe later?!?
They need to develop better bus services. Not surprised no love for the South or West line. You’d think they’d do a better job of serving the people in the city who have to use it, but in a city that’s “too busy to hate” guess all that matters is money and how it looks rather that actual functionality and purpose.
I’m all for improving the city of Hotlanta & I support & love Marta to the fullest in whatever they wish to do. Atlanta wouldnt be this great city without Marta. Marta is everywhere & that’s why this city is so safe. Expand Marta!!!!
why not use the funds to fix the rail system. Everyday the trains are breaking down and we get notices the trains have been suspended sorry for the inconvenience. This is not good. Rather have working trains with air conditioning than a new building.
