A bar that’s been a long time coming appears to be making progress in Atlanta.
A liquor license application was submitted recently for Redacted Basement Drink Parlor. The bar is proposed for 63B Georgia Avenue SE, in Atlanta’s Summerhill neighborhood south of downtown. Other businesses in the vicinity include Little Bear, Little Tart Bakeshop and Big Softie.
The establishment was originally slated to be called Conspiracy before owners Jake Karmin and Judy Ho announced in 2019 that they would be changing the name to Redacted. The two are former employees of Hand in Hand, a Virginia-Highland pub that closed in 2018 after 18 years in business.
According to the liquor license application, Redacted would be a “bar with malt beverages, wine and distilled spirits.” Operating hours would be 4 p.m. to midnight Tuesday through Saturday. The nearly 1,500-square-foot space would have seating for 50 people, and some food would be served; 10 percent of sales are expected to come from food, with the remaining 90 percent coming from alcohol.
Revive Architecture is working on the space. The Atlanta-based firm’s portfolio includes the renovation and logo design for the Buckhead sports bar Irby’s Tavern.
The owners could not immediately be reached for more information about when it is expected to open, but a website for the Summerhill neighborhood says the concept is “coming soon.” Redacted is described as an “underground bar with an ambiance and cocktail list inspired by conspiracy theories that’s sure to create a new experience with every visit.”
