Julia LeRoy partners with owners of Fellini’s Pizza and La Fonda Latina restaurants for new fried chicken joint.

LeRoy’s Fried Chicken is opening in West Midtown, according to Covered Dish’s James Oxendine.

The “fried chicken stand” will open under Julia LeRoy (former Bookhouse Pub chef) and Clay Harper and Mike Nelson, owners of the Fellini’s Pizza and La Fonda Latina restaurants.

LeRoy first collaborated with Harper and Nelson on Three on The Tree — a gourmet frozen yogurt concept — where LeRoy served as the “guest confectioner.”

Located at 1021 Howell Mill Road, the space LeRoy’s Fried Chicken will take was originally rumored to open as a sandwich or yogurt concept under the Fellini Restaurant brand, LeRoy excluded (she was rumored to act as executive chef for Patrick La Bouff’s new 905 Juniper concept).

In an interview with Oxendine, LeRoy explained the new concept as a “take-away-only fried chicken stand.”

LeRoy told Oxendine the chicken stand will only use natural local chickens (from Springer Mountain Farms) — sounds a lot like the fried version of Delia Champion’s recently opened East Atlanta Village chicken sausage stand.

Subject to change, other menu items will include “coleslaw, mac ‘n’ cheese, collards, biscuits and hand-cut fries as well as fried chicken hearts and chicken livers.”

LeRoy’s Fried Chicken is slated to open late June.

  1. Thank GOD it didn’t end up becoming a burger, sandwich, or froyo place! However, I’m sure people will find some way to make this opening a negative thing.

  2. So far, it sounds good. And yes, thank goodness, it’s not another burger joint. Fried Chicken Livers, now that’s my kind of place.

  3. This is fun. Love fried chicken. My only ‘negative’ comment is that multiple people have told me they hated the food at Bookstore. Were they wrong?

    1. hi sb– ill personally vouch for the bookstore pub. never had a bad meal there (for what it is — gastropub fare). don’t knock it till you try it, as the saying goes.

  4. is the restaurant color theme going to be “turquoise” them she wanted her restaurant to be before? fried chicken is meant to be eaten on the spot. not when its cold and soggy

  5. I agree with jack – not the turquoise theme – don’t care about that. But if I’m going to do a calorie splurge on fried chicken, I want it to be hot and juicy, fresh from the fryer. Not wrapped up so the crust can get soggy.

  6. now here is what I don’t understand about some of the comments above. Why on the article about frank ski opening a restaurant people were to busy commenting on it being ghetto and boughetto and all this other negative crap yet this lady can open up a restaurant called leroy fried chicken? now i wonder would these comments be more negative if frank ski decided he wanted to name his restaurant FRANK SKI’S FRIED CHICKEN? SMH people are so predictable and hateful and selfhating… I wish both restaurants the best no matter what the name is

  7. I don’t know Julia nor have I ever met her.
But she is the cutest chef in town. I can’t
wait to eat her. Whoops, meant to say eat her
    chicken.
