Thursday night, the steakhouse held a celebrity filled grand opening preview at its unfinished space inside the Loews Hotel building at the 12th & Midtown development.

What Now Atlanta ran into Devon Mosley, national director of marketing for The One Group (STK’s parent company), at Thursday’s party.

Although STK announced it would be opening “mid-December,” Mosley confirmed its exact opening date will be Dec. 15.

STK will start taking reservations Dec. 5, he said.

Neighboring sister concept, Cucina Asellina, will open a few weeks after STK.

  1. Pencil me in as someone who couldn’t care less about STK. This is not a chef driven restaurant. It’s a place that has little-to-no pride in its menu but rather more pride in which famous person is photographed sitting at its bar.

Just look at its own press website. I clicked on about 10 of its links to see some press about the food and instead I saw Snokie, models and other B- celebs having dinner. While that’s great and all, this restaurant will add little to the quality of the Atlanta dining scene. I didn’t see a singe article saying anything positive about the food on its own website.

If you want a chance to see a local celeb, in a party atmosphere, with a loud bar, and a 2 hour wait, with a dumb (but sexy) hostess, and an inexpierienced and overworked (but sylish) waiter, STK will probably be a good place to go for a couple years. If you want a great steak…..you’d probably better try somewhere else.

  2. This is nice for visitors and special occasions, but is there anyone thinking about everyday eating? The food court at colony square is open only for lunch during the week (except chick fil a, the pizza place on saturday). There is a real need for a cheaper place to eat in midtown during the dinner hour during the week and on the weekends in the 14th street area. A 24 hour diner would be wonderful if the space exists to put it.

  3. Oh Traci, you should have seen Colony Square 10 years ago! The horrible choices at the food court was all there was except for the Subway down the street if you wanted lunch for less than $10. Sounds like the area has not changed very much.

  4. There are plenty of cheap and decent places to get lunch in midtown. Try Sausilito’s at 1389 Peachtree. Try any of the food trucks that are around midtown pretty much everyday. Try lunch at Empire State South @ 10th and P’tree (under $20). Once you’ve had a superfood salad at ESS you will never ask for a diner again!

I would not be excited about a 24 hour diner anywhere near 14th and Peachtree.

  5. Wasn’t there a 24hr diner on the Dontberry property at 10th and Peachtree that failed? Even though that might have been more about the quality of the diner and it’s pulled from the Home Depot dumpster exterior, it doesn’t make for a welcoming sign to those who would think about opening their own all night diner.

  6. I was thinking of everyday eating on the weekends in that area. During the week there are options, but the weekend it’s limited, especially at night. The diner that was at 10th and peachtree was not really a diner, it was a sneaky attempt to put in a club. I was thinking about real diner, not a fake.

  7. Just a reminder that whatever goes on that block at 10th and peachtree is probably temporary, as far as I know, Dewberry owns it and is probably waiting for a deal to come along. Nothing is really going to thrive on that block knowing that the situtation is temporary.

  8. Everybody…I need to report. I went to STK on Friday night! Had two drinks and two appetizers…bill was about $68, though it was “on the house.”

VERY expensive place. I tried the pickled prawns and the tuna tartare. The prawns were huge…but pickled lol, and the tuna was basically one bite.

There was a DJ. Our server was a dancer for the Hawks. One of the Bert Show guys was in there. Definitely a very hip place for young people and wealthy gay guys! Let’s just put it this way, I felt a little underdressed without $2,000 John Varvatos shoes on…

And I’ll go ahead and agree it seems less like a chef-driven restaurant than one driven by celebrities.
