A now-closed Krystal restaurant in Gilmer County is expected to be converted into a Chipotle, according to construction documents. The property is located in Ellijay at 124 Highland Crossing.
The inside of the restaurant will be completely gutted and redesigned “for new interior buildout per Chipotle brand standards,” according to the documents.
There are currently 103 Chipotle locations in Georgia. This would be the first in Ellijay.
This isn’t the only shuttered establishment that is expected to take on new life as a Chipotle. The fast-casual Mexican food chain is also slated to take over the space of a former bank in Flowery Branch.
The Chipotle menu includes burritos, bowls, tacos, quesadillas and salads. There are more than 3,200 locations in the U.S., Canada, the United Kingdom, France and Germany, all corporate-owned. According to Chipotle, they are the only restaurant company of this size that owns and operates all its restaurants in North America and Europe. The company is expected to host a conference call on July 24, 2024, to discuss second quarter financial results.
