The brand plans to open the temporary shop in December following the demolition of the current building, which is scheduled to begin this week.

Details will be released soon regarding the temporary shop, including opening date, operating hours, and menu, according to the release.

Krispy Kreme plans to retain and refurbish some of the elements and features of the historic Ponce de Leon shop, including the iconic sign, as part of a new, permanent shop that will be built and opened in 2022, as first reported by What Now Atlanta.

Krispy Kreme’s longstanding Ponce de Leon restaurant is now owned by Shaquille O’Neal. Shaq acquired the Krispy Kreme location in 2016, adding to the former professional basketball player’s ever-growing list of Papa John’s Pizza franchise locations.

    1. That Krispy Kreme opened on Ponce in 1965 and featured a 24-hour drive-thru window. It was also the only kosher-certified Krispy Kreme location within the city of Atlanta. So it was fairly old… so technically historic. Krispy Kreme was founded in 1937 in NC… so likely there are more historic ones.
