Co-owners Chef Myles Moody and Rachael Pack are behind the “multi-faceted” marketplace, comprised of a butchery offering fresh cuts of high-grade, locally sourced meat, a curated grocery store, and a coffee bar.

“The Kinship team is focused on providing a hospitality experience that moves toward more sustainable food systems and directly impacts the community in a meaningful way,” according to a press release this week. “Moody develops Kinship’s whole-animal butchery program, while Pack curates the store’s selection of organic and biodynamic wines and a variety of artisan domestic cheeses. They deal directly with farmers and small purveyors to give consumers access to quality, in-season produce, responsibly raised meat, and locally sourced goods.”

Kinship serves breakfast sandwiches like the Single, Double, and the Double Double (layered with Georgia organic eggs, Sweet Grass Dairy Thomasville Tomme, red onion, seasonal greens, and bacon or sausage). There will also be an ever-changing menu of specials inspired by what is on hand to strive towards a zero-waste food system.

“We had the dream of doing in life what we love to do most but sought an environment where honesty, community, and family come first,” Moody said. “We are honored to have this opportunity to bring this to life through Kinship.”

Academy Coffee, owned and operated by Myles’ brother Connan Moody, is Kinship’s on-site coffee bar. Academy used to operate in the Irwin Street Market.

A rotating menu of offerings will include the Hercules, Hercules (a flat white with bay leaf and olive oil), The B-Side (cold brew with banana and basil), White Lightnin (Ginger Beer, Tiki Bitters, and Espresso), Matchapanela (Aquapanela with Matcha Tea) and for those who want a spontaneous pick-me-up, customers can opt for the Surprise Me, in which Connan will whip up an impromptu caffeine creation.

Kinship is open daily 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. with the exception of Wednesdays when the shop is closed. Kinship is the second business to open in Virginia-Highland last weekend, joining Doughnut Dollies which debuted officially nearby on August 21.
