Kenny’s Alley in Underground Atlanta Eyeing Student’s Discretionary Income

Nightclub Reopening Alcohol Free?

Now participating in College Football, Georgia State University is taking over Downtown Atlanta. Underground Atlanta, which is considered by some as part of the GSU campus, is experiencing this locust like invasion and local businesses are influenced to change business plans and concepts. Scores Sports Bar and Restaurant located at Kenny’s Alley in Underground Atlanta is currently undergoing renovations to turn into what many are calling the Panthers Den. A makeover that includes the GSU logo on windows and plans to incorporate the school radio for football sportscasts from the Dome, this sports bar is hoping to score big with GSU students.

Their adjacent nightclub, with room for a thousand, is also under renovation with plans of reopening by Super Bowl weekend. Club Underground (the supposed name of the new club, though a working title) will permit individuals 18 and older.

House Nightclub at Kenny’s Alley will also undergo major renovations and reopen within two months as University Club House. With Coca Cola holding the soda rights, the owners have yet to decide whether or not there will be alcohol. Either way, University Club House will also attract an 18 and older crowd.

Facing the inevitable, catering to college students looking to party and have a good time, these changes just might be the much-needed rejuvenation for Underground Atlanta.

  3. I would agree with SARA. I used to Looooovvvveee going to the mad hatter. sara , do u remember ” penny a beer night on wednesdays” i would go to school thurdsay sick as heck. that was back in the day before they carded you to death. Also does anyone remember the ” FRONT PAGE ” ??? I had my eighteenth birthday there and my first real alcoholic beverage. man, those were fun times.

  4. I went to the Mad Hatter all the time when underaged and never got carded until…my 18th birthday! No kidding. The first time I was ever carded going into a bar. I think I went to the Front Page after high school graduation. I was with a couple guys at the Pump House who got into a hurricane drinking contest and got so hammered one of them took a swing at a cop later that night. Guess where he woke up? I think the lower drinking age may have helped bring about Underground’s decline. It was a little nicer before that but when the age came down so did the drink prices…like the aforementioned penny beer (and a quarter for a mixed drink) night at the Hatter. The bars gradually became lower class catering to younger people with cheaper fare.
