Frozen yogurt might not be saturated, but the market sure is.
Juicy Green has closed in Virginia Highland, according to David Eckoff with the Virginia-Highland Connect.
An employee (pictured right sweeping) at the “frozen yogurt, smoothies and gelato shop” located at 1046 N. Highland Avenue, confirmed the store is now closed.
Eckoff reports that the shop’s “yogurt machines, furniture, and fixtures have been removed.”
Reasons behind the closure are not confirmed, according to Eckoff, who made attempts to reach Juicy Green management, both by phone and email, only to go unanswered.
Eckoff makes the case:
“With incumbant Paolo’s Gelato Italiano close by on Virginia Ave, Yogli Mogli set to open next to Taco Mac next month, and Yoforia (currently closed for renovations) a short drive away in Morningside, Juicy Green was in a crowded market.”
Juicy Green first opened in Virginia Highland, September 2009. And though the “yogurt craze” has lead to an overwhelming number of new frozen yogurt stores, Juicy Green’s closure came just day’s after Yoreka’s, which closed last week in Little Five Points.

I never see anyone in any of these places. I work in finance…does anyone who opens these store have a background in creating business plans and complex pro formas?
I doubt they even know what the word “pro forma” means.
This store, while clean and modern, had none of the attributes required to garner the support of the neighborhood. it was simply out of place.
Yogli Mogli, while a concept that will appeal to the “under 12 set”, is a “me too” yogurt concept; one among many saturating the market.
Meanwhile, Paolo’s Gelato will remain the choice for adults who value the neighborhood for its uniqueness, and patronize establishments that conform to this quality.
