West Midtown ‘tavern restaurant, bar and billiards’ sales flier looks suspiciously familiar

UPDATE (Sept. 15): Corner Tavern puts its West Midtown location up for sale

Is the Corner Tavern at Apex West Midtown for sale after just opening in June of last year?

What Now Atlanta sought confirmation Tuesday from Michael Rabb, Corner Tavern owner, after spotting a sales flier from the Shumacher Group listing a “Midtown Atlanta tavern restaurant, bar and billiards” for sale.

Rabb had no comment.

The sales flier notes a “partner split” as the reason for listing the property as well as several other striking similarities: opened in 2010, live music stage, three regulation billiard tables and a full service bar with 31 taps that has its own dedicated walk, to name a few.

Oyle Harrison, manager for the Little Five Points Corner Tavern, said he hadn’t heard anything about the West Midtown location being for sale.

Harrison did confirm the Corner Tavern had “two owners up until about eight months ago.”

When the West Midtown restaurant does sell, the new owner will not be allowed to keep the current name and concept, the listing notes.

What Now Atlanta asked Tim Ewton who works at the adjacent Helmet Hair Salon on a trip to the restaurant Tuesday, what he’d like to see take its place if it comes to that.

“Something Asian,” Ewton said.

West Midtown resident, Stuart Spencer, who frequents the Corner Tavern weekly, was distraught to hear the Corner Tavern could possibly be closing.

“If the Corner Tavern closes, I am going to die,” Spencer said. “It’s the best thing that happened to the design district.”

  1. There’s a Corner Tavern in West Midtown?
Maybe that’s why they’re selling, no one knows it’s there…

  2. I know it’s there and I REALLY like Corner Tavern. There are always people there (inside and out on the patio) when I drive by on my way home. It’s a great, non-pretentious place to chill, have a beer and eat some (perhaps surprisingly) good food. I will be really disappointed if/when this closes. My husband and I really enjoy going here as it truly is our neighborhood’s “corner tavern.” Bummer. Caleb, keep us updated on this situation. Thanks.

  3. I try and go there at least once a week. Great food and large beer selection. Best bar on this side of town…

  4. No Way! This place is super cool and a great hangout…I even saw Queen Latifah there last week…praying/hoping it stays put…

  5. I hope this isn’t true — we love this place! Great food and a nice place to go in our neighborhood.

  6. I agree, its a great place and the staff are so friendly… great beer selection and tasty food as well. It will be a real shame to lose it. I hope its something similarly good. It’s getting more business than Central City Tavern and that’s a much more visible location!
