The breakfast chain is planned for 5201 Mercer University Drive, according to construction plans. The one-story, freestanding restaurant would be about 3,200 square feet. The documents indicate plans for an outdoor covered patio, as well as a drive-up window for to-go orders.

When the restaurant opens, hungry diners in the area might have a decision to make on where to grab breakfast; the site of the proposed IHOP is across the road from a Waffle House.

IHOP first opened in Toluca Lake, California, in 1958. In addition to the pancakes that the chain is known for, the menu includes other breakfast items like omelettes, waffles, crepes and French toast, as well as burgers, sandwiches, salads and more.

According to the company, 99 percent of IHOP restaurants are franchised. As of last summer, there were 1,790 locations around the world.
