Ian’s Over Pizza moved out of its old space to make room for the chain restaurant, Taco Mac. Its new location, at 5886 Wendy Bagwell Pkwy Suite 215, sits within arm’s length of Suite 101, where it used to be in Hiram.

While the new unit is more of a downsize, Owner Yo Hwan Kim told What Now Atlanta he doesn’t feel like this is a downgrade. In fact, it’s afforded him the opportunity to invest in a double-deck oven and two walk-in coolers, which will vastly improve productivity. The smaller dining area won’t be an issue moving forward, as greater emphasis is being placed on delivery in order to adapt to the impact of the novel coronavirus.
Kim is also happy to stay in the area, which has been good to him since he took over Ian’s Oven Pizza in 2012, making pizza that is “not strictly speaking, but close” to New York-style. He’s calling it a “custom pizzeria” with your choice of lightly done, well done, thin skin, and thick skin. As of right now, Kim says they’re not offering any Gluten-free options.
Kim said that this is a chance for him to reinvigorate Ian’s Oven Pizza’s somewhat New York pizza brand — including an all-new paint job and a greater emphasis being on the kitchen in general. This new space should be open to the public in November, as long as set-backs cease. Kim is still waiting on one of his walk-in coolers. An opening timeline for the new Taco Mac — which was announced in August — has not yet been announced.

Interesting marriage we’ll see if it works out…
This is very disappointing for many reasons.
I have lived in Atlanta for 30 years. I think Harold and his team will do a fantastic job of maintaining the Mary Mac tradition. Good luck and can’t wait to go back.
Great, now he’ll ruin it like he did Taco Mac, all in the name of money.
So glad that it’s opening back up!
Lets hope that it is run better than the last few years. Not sure how employees were treated, but the neighborhood suffered from a huge amount of trash from employees hanging out at their cars on residential streets. Lots of trash from patrons going back to their cars and dropping bags in the street. Also needs to build a parking garage rather than taking up so much of resident’s parking in the neighborhood. With the last expansion they did not add any parking, and Mary Mac’s guests were not know for walking or taking Marta. So much room for improvement.
I am a native Atlantan and I have dinned at Mary Macs one time.
Great service, nice dining room, lousy over salted food.
How do you f–k up cornbread, greens and corn…and pinto beans?
By pouring a container of salt in said food.
I hope the new owner maintains the charm and improves the food prep.
Glad to hear my favorite soul food restaurant is coming back. Could we please get smoke turkey put in the vegetables instead of pork. Can’t wait to come back.
Taco mac is the worst.
