Taste Bar and Kitchen, a popular brunch spot out of Houston, TX, currently serves Atlanta with delivery and take out from a ghost kitchen at Forrest Eatery in Berkeley Park. But that’s about to change. According to Eater Atlanta, owner and chef Don Bowie is planning to open a full-service location of the restaurant early next year.

Taste Bar and Kitchen has become known as Houston’s #1 brunch destination with lines sometimes stretching out the door on weekends. A statement on its website reads that the restaurant “offers globally inspired comfort foods and craft cocktails in an energetic, casual dining environment.”

Its menu is full of Southern fare including an extensive chicken and waffles menu that features innovative flavor fusions like Cajun Chicken and Waffles, Chicken Fried Lobster and Waffles and General Tso’s Chicken & Waffles. A number of sweet waffles are also offered including Spiced Butter Pecan, Red Velvet and Banana Nut.

Other menu items include jerk lamb chops, mac and cheese, fried chicken and champagne, and a variety of craft cocktails and specialty champagne mimosa mixes.

Bowie opened Taste Bar and Kitchen three years ago in Houston with former business partner Kevin Kelley. The two parted ways after Kelley accused Bowie of stealing money and food from Taste and improperly taking out Payroll Protection Program loans. In return, Bowie claimed Kelley hired his “unqualified” sister to be the restaurant’s accountant and stole proprietary recipes from Taste to use at his own Dallas restaurant, True Kitchen and Kocktails.

The two have denied each other’s allegations and filed lawsuits against one another. According to Harris County court documents, a trial could possibly take place in February 2022.

While Bowie is a native of Houston, he is no stranger to the Atlanta food scene. In 2010, he moved to Atlanta for culinary school at Le Cordon and then worked at a number of restaurants in the Atlanta area.

A location and exact opening date for the forthcoming Atlanta Taste Bar and Kitchen has not yet been announced.
