The Fabulous Fox Theatre is influencing one Atlanta hotel to tell the story of its Midtown neighborhood.

Hotel Indigo Atlanta Midtown, the first of 38 global boutique hotels from InterContinental Hotels Group (IHG), is getting a Fox Theatre inspired makeover, according to Mary Dogan, director of brand management for the Hotel Indigo brand.

“The hotel will tell a story about the Fox Theatre that many Atlantans don’t know about,” Dogan said. “If the locals were to have built this hotel, this story is what they would have told.”

The hotel’s former restaurant, Phi Bar and its other common areas including the main lobby, have already undergone renovations. The new restaurant, which first opened Sept. 2, is called 683 Midtown Bar and Bistro and has a focus on “great cocktails” and “good food.”

Beginning in October, Hotel Indigo will renovate its guestrooms beginning with floors 12 and 11, followed by two and three, ten and nine, etc., to ensure floors desired by guests are available to them during construction. Atlanta-based design firm Ai3, has been hired by the hotel to oversee the renovations.

Ai3 is meeting with the hotel Thursday to present final designs for approval.

Gabriele Webster, the hotel’s general manager since its opening in 2004, told What Now Atlanta on a trip to the property Tuesday, the hotel will have a “visual music” element, post renovations.

The new look and feel of the hotel will incorporate the Fox Theatre’s “music archive” and have design elements that offer subtle music elements, according to Caroline Counihan, senior media relations manager for InterContinental Hotels Group.

“Music is one of the themes that saved the Midtown Area,” Counihan said. “We’re taking that story and incorporating into the hotel in non-obvious ways.”

Each Hotel Indigo property has been designed to tell the story of the various neighborhoods where the hotels are located. Its 60 planned locations will be built under that premise, including Atlanta’s newest Hotel Indigo addition in College Park, slated to open in January, 2012.

Hotel Indigo Atlanta Midtown will complete its renovations by the end of December, 2011.

  1. “Curious to see how the design of the College Park location reflects its surroundings.”
That’ll be the weaves and thieves theme package. They have really taken off in the Oakland and Baltimore locations.

  2. @Brit Brit

You truly are an embarrassment. And then we wonder why we cant avoid race baited conversations and have a truly intelligent conversation regarding improving the urban and economic environment of cities.

  3. I do wonder what College Park’s local flavor will be. That area is run down and seems to be an unsuitable place for a Hotel Indigo. I suppose if they put it close enough to the airport that it might work.

  4. Uhhh…the College Park theme would most likely be aviation.

Sorry, should I spice it up and say “Soul Plane” themed?

  5. Have any of you ever visited Downtown College Park and the College Ave or Main St area? Its a very upscale Old money neighborhood , and yes the airport IS located technically in College Park, Should the airport be in Buckhead or Alpharetta? they’re trying to put one in Gwinnett but they are fighting that so what is it you racists want?Old National is just ONE section of College Park.Damn Ive never seen people who judge so harshly the living standards of others by what they hear, read or perceive but not what they actually know. Ive NEVER seen such closet hide behind the computer HATERS but none of you would ever confront any of the people you are speaking of face to face with these comments.
