Pencil Factory Flats Opened April 2009… Finally Filling Their Restaurant/Retail Space on Street Level

Hill Street Tavern will be opening at the Pencil Factory Flats on Decatur Street just outside of downtown. With an estimated opening around the month of June, Hill Street Tavern will join Intown Market, Melange Hair Salon and Mr. Blackwell’s Coffee at the Pencil Factory Shops.

Hill Street Tavern is said to be opening under the owners of The Manchester Arms, a British pub located on Virginia Avenue in College Park.

Insiders at the Pencil Factory Flats suggest that Hill Street Tavern will offer fare and atmosphere similar to The Manchester Arms.

The Manchester Arms British pub serves European and North American food in the modern tradition of the British Gastro Pub. The focus however, is their beer bar that offers a wide variety of beer on draft, including Stella Artois, Guinness, Bass, Sweetwater 420, and Boddingtons.

With the views of downtown and midtown available from all levels of the Pencil Factory Flats, Hill Street Tavern has the makings of a great new restaurant for the area.

  1. it seems as if something is finally about to happen. thank goodness. i wish taco mac or some well known establishment would move to the area….at this point even applebees would be an improvement!!!! does any of the major restaurant chain realize that ga state has 25,000 students downtown with no decent place to eat??!! wow!!!!

  2. Hill Street Tavern is now open. Bout Damn time! Great food and very friendly staff and 20 draft beers, need I say more

  3. Wow is right. For waiting so long & being so optimistic I was highly disappointed. Wings – horrible, hummus – average, potatoe skins – really bad. Hopefully they can get the kitchen kinks out. Service at the bar? Really poor – unattentive & ditzy. All of these issues can be chalked up to a new establishment & hopefully they will be ironed out. I can say that my biggest gripe with this place is the lack of a beer menu. You boast 20 drafts and the bartender can’t name 3? How difficult is it to type up a page listing beer & running off copies? I’ll try it again in a month….

  4. Any news as to why they were served with a cease and desist order at the end of May? Low health score? Are they back open or closed for good?
