H. Harper Station Brakes For The Depot Space

H. Harper Station, an upscale cocktail and small plates modern watering hole, is slated to open in late October to early November.

Taking space that was most recently The Depot at 904 Memorial Drive in Reynoldstown, H. Harper Station will serve Southern style fare and will offer a raw bar.

Opening under Lush Life Group, the owners of Rolling Bones and the creators of One Flew South, a lease was signed last week with Cartel Properties.

Todd L. Richards, Duane Nutter and Jerry Slater of Lush Life Group live in the Reynoldstown neighborhood and are advocators for expanding this part of town and are huge supporters of newly opened neighboring restaurant, Home Grown.

The Depot lasted a mere nine months in the space so we’re forced to wonder whether or not the location is to blame for this closure. The structure itself has several areas covered in graffiti and signs posted on entrances read “the TV’s are all gone” (a cheap alternative to an alarm system?).

Other than cleaning up the space and minor renovations, the only other factor in determining an opening date is how quickly the city processes their liquor license.

  1. The Depot only lasted 9 months because the food was HORRENDOUS and fully-priced to boot. I’m eager to see what the new ownership has to offer!

  2. I agree with Sarah, the food at the Depot was not that good. But the space and outdoor bar/deck was awesome. So hopefully this new idea will be a lot better. But I would not buy any flat screens for this place! They WILL be stolen.

  3. Lush Life restaurants/Rolling Bones Bar B Q…has sub par food quality and dirty restaurants/kitchens. Chef Todd Richards is NOT a man of his word. He lies and manipulates. All these jokers cares about is the $$$$, not food quality or customer service.
Don’t hold your breath that this restaurant will be “upscale” or quality anything…that is an oxymoron statement…they buy FROZEN food…from the cheapest providers around, and I would not be suprised if they do water down the cocktails if they even get a liquor license. Small southern style plates=cheap overhead cost-quality and a raw bar…YUK…I bet it will be Gulf Coast bargain sub par quality shellfish….marinated in BP oil…EWH.
Reynoldstown DOES NOT need this next to an already bankrupt loft condo development that is 85% vacant. I’d bet they just see this location on the ATL Beltline as a future cash cow…they couldn’t care less about anything but the bottom line….$$$$$$$$.

  4. Its “ONE FLEW SOUTH” not “ONE FLEW OVER.” Good job of reporting.

Ben isn’t everything that we do about $$$?

  5. Dear Ben

I don’t know who you are, but I do know this. I have put up the money to open H. Harper Station in Reynoldstown and I was a restraunt
manager 4 many years for one of the largest restraunt in in the united states and I am very strict about a clean restraunt and a restraunt whose
main goal is good food and customer service, so before you go cutting people down that u don’t even know come in and give us a try when we get open. I promise you the food and drinks will be top quality.

  6. Seriously, the food at The Depot was so bad. They had such a great space and the neighborhood was so excited about the restaurant, and the owners blew it with a real lack of quality control. The neighborhood would love to see this location succeed.

  7. I’m excited! live in EAV and drive by the depot everyday =) I think if Rolling Bones has anything to do with it it should be delicious because that place rocks! =) My husband says their collard greens taste just like his “grandmommy’s” so I would guess that would be the ultimate compliment =)

  8. I live close by, and was disappointed in the Depot, but was also sad to see it fail and to have such a great venue sit vacant for so long. We definitely need to give this new place a fair chance, and I for one will be there as soon as it opens to give it a shot. Ms Johnson, one suggestion, please make sure there are a few good quality local or small/craft beers on tap. With that patio, and the right beer, I think you’ll quickly make lots of friends in Reynoldstown!

  9. The Depot is in a perfect location, but I concur the food was sub-par and the prices were ridiculous. I am resident of Reynoldstown and I am excited to see something take over this location but if these small plates are priced at $10 and up and the typical beer special is an overpriced microbrew then it will fail.

Reynoldstown/Cabbagetown has a laid back, artistic neighborhood feel that loves community, a great vibe and good drink specials. Hopefully you can cater to that!

  10. Well, I CAN SAY THIS MUCH FOR ALL YOU PEOPLE THAT ARE WORRIED ABOUT THE PRICES AND THE QUALITY….. Janet Johnson is very concerned with prices and quality. My daughter’s wedding caterer had an emergency 1 week before the wedding and canceled. I was shattered, but Mrs. Johnson stepped in at the last minute & catered an unbelievable Reception on the small budget I had given her. We were unable to immediately have our money returned from the previous caterer, and there was no way Mrs. Johnson could have put together such an elaborate outspread of food of such quality and beautiful setup with the money we gave her. I just asked her to do the best she could with what we had. But no way was she going to half do anything that had her name attached to it. She would not accept any extra from me later, & I know there was no one else that gave her extra for this. She did this first and foremost, because HER NAME was attached to the event. So all of you that don’t know her, you can rest assured, if she is promoting this, it WILL BE PHENOMINAL! It will be something else and a place that this town will be proud to say it is in there community. DON’T WORRY! I can give you this as a promise. If Janet Johnson says it is going to be good, then IT WILL BE GREAT!

  11. …..,and to all you spellcheckers, I meant to say, “this town will be proud to say it is in THEIR community.” Sorry if the misspelling bothered you. I’m certain there will be more, but I failed to proof it before I hit the “submit” button! lol

  12. The Depot was expensive and it’s true that the food was unspectacular (to be kind. What a beautiful space though. Hopefully Lush Life can make this great neighborhood place.

  13. seriously. Don’t we already have ENOUGH “southern fare” and fusion restaurants in atlanta. Atlanta’s restaurant scene is WAAAAAY overrated.

  14. Kudos, Ms. Jackson!

After living in Grant Park for 7 years, I recently was job transferred to another state but I drove past this spot every single day until I moved in October.
This is the coolest spot and my neighbors and I all hoped a new concept would open in the place of the one that failed.
Rest assured, I will be trying it out on my next trip back to Atlanta.
I wish this restaurant much success as its a much needed place in the neighborhood.
Thank you also to whatnowatlanta.com as I stumbled across you today and was wondering what happened to the old Depot spot and you were the only place I found out any information.
