Two of Atlanta’s popular restaurants, Gypsy Kitchen and The Southern Gentleman, owned by the Southern Proper Hospitality Group, temporarily closed their doors on Sunday, January 5, 2025.

As per the notification by the company, the restaurants are to undergo essential HVAC system upgrades and design improvements. The renovations of the restaurants are aimed at enhancing the guest experience.

As per a press release, Gypsy Kitchen and The Southern Gentleman are scheduled to be re-opened in early February 2025.

Southern Proper Hospitality Group said that they plan to replace and modernize the HVAC systems at both restaurants. This will ensure a more pleasant, comfortable and climate-controlled environment, especially during warmer summer months.

Gypsy Kitchen will also have changes made to its design. When finished, guests will be able to enjoy an inviting and contemporary atmosphere at the iconic restaurant.

An Atlantan favorite, the restaurant is located on the second floor of Buckhead Village. Serving an eclectic menu, the space has a bohemian ambiance. The space has a patio offering full-fletched views of the city.

Gypsy Kitchen opened in 2014, and the space has been quite beloved by its patrons. As the owners have now announced the design update, it will be interesting to see what the space will be turned into.

No Changes in Interiors for The Southern Gentleman

The Southern Gentleman’s decor and interiors will not face any changes. Other than the HVAC system changes, the restaurant will remain as is.

The statement also said that during the temporary closure, the teams will be working diligently. It will ensure that the spaces welcome the guests back to an elevated dining experience. There may also be some exciting surprises that await the guests.

Chris Hadermann, Southern Proper Hospitality Group managing partner and CEO, assured that the staff will be taken care of. During this time, the servers, hosts, bartenders, line cooks, and chefs will not be left astray, he promised the patrons of the restaurant.

The company will also be releasing updates on the progress through the official channels. They also stated their appreciation for the community’s understanding and patience.

A Bit About the Gypsy Kitchen and The Southern Gentleman

Both Gypsy Kitchen and Southern Gentleman are sister restaurants and share a kitchen at Buckhead Village. The restaurants have been popular among diners throughout their more than a decade in operation. The former is a casual dining space, while the latter is more of a gastropub.

Southern Proper Hospitality Group, which owns the restaurant, also owns several other popular restaurants. The others are The Big Ketch Saltwater Grill, The Blind Pig Parlour Bar, Chido + Padre’s, Milton’s Cuisine & Cocktails, Ocean & Acre, and Tin Lizzy’s Cantina.

The next month will see the beloved restaurants revamped. Atlanta is eagerly waiting for the improved version of two of its most iconic restaurants.
