Self-taught cake designer to open Sweet Tooth’s Dessert Bar

Does she have what it takes to be Atlanta’s next Cake Boss?

Cake designing doesn’t require any creative ability, according to soon-to-be dessert shop owner Chalandra Strickland.

“I have absolutely no artistic talent whatsoever,” said Stirckland who plans on opening Sweet Tooth’s Dessert Bar in Castleberry Hill sometime this May.

The 914-square-foot cake shop at 335 Nelson Street will offer gourmet desserts and customized cakes for all occasions, “like the ones you see on T.V. these days,” Strickland told What Now Atlanta.

Sweet Tooth’s will also serve gourmet coffee, espresso and eventually Strickland’s own “smoothie creations.”

The dessert bar will host spoken word and jazz events, offer an Internet bar and Strickland said she’ll even design the more “intricate cakes in front of guests.”

Strickland’s favorite menu item is the Kaleidoscope cupcake: key lime, lemon and red velvet.

“The colors all swirl together,” said Stickland. “It’s really something to die for.”

And for those patrons that have dietary restrictions, Sweet Tooth’s daily menu will offer diabetic, vegan, low calorie and gluten free options.

The dessert bar will be open for business Monday through Thursday, 6 a.m. to 10 p.m., Friday and Saturday from 6 a.m. until 1 a.m.

“If you want a piece of cheesecake at 1 a.m. on Friday, I’ll be there!”

  2. I don’t think I want to order a cake from someone who states right up front that she has no artistic talent whatsoever.

  3. To me, no “artistic” talent, screams: NATURAL TALENT and that’s what you have! I’ve seen your work & KNOW you’ll succeed! Anyone can be “taught” to do anything, but for it to come naturally- without “instruction”…it is a gift- continue to let your light shine! Watch-out Atlanta! Here she comes! I’m rooting for you! Congratulations! 🙂

  4. This is so exciting. Missy is one of the finest people I have even known. It is so refreshing when someone is finally rewarded for their hard work and dedication. I love you Lady!!!!

  5. This is awesome Missy! I work near this location, so I will definitely be a regular patron of Sweet Tooth’s Dessert Bar; and I will spread the word to others in my office suite & building. “Sweet Tooth’s” will be an excellent addition to this historic part of downtown Atlanta. Castleberry Hills is known for its art shops, including the art shop strolls on the 2nd Fridays each month. The vicinity is also popular for tailgating during the Falcon’s games. I commend you for continuing to use your God-provided talent to the fullest. Your extra-ordinary wonderful spirit, natural talent and hard work will make this extension of Sweet Tooth’s a continued success. Wishing you congratulations, love, peace and blessings!
