Hospitality group Fork U Concepts has shuttered its Taqueria Tsunami in Sandy Springs, Co-Owner Scott Kinsey Sunday told What Now Atlanta in an email. As with a growing list of Atlanta-area restaurants, Kinsey cited the ongoing novel coronavirus pandemic as the deciding factor in permanently shuttering the Sandy Springs location of the growing Taqueria Tsunami brand.
“Sadly, our Sandy Springs location will not open after the loss from COVID-19,” Kinsey said. “We offered our team jobs at our neighboring locations. Our hearts go out to all restaurant owners and operators during this unprecedented time.”
Fork U has a sizable portfolio of restaurants around town—Taqueria Tsunami, Stockyard Burgers & Bones, Silla Del Toro, and Forno Vero—and in March launched a “Restaurant Worker’s Relief Fund” via GoFund me, looking to crowdsource $25,000 to “help support our team members.” In exchange for donations, the company provided a “Support Card to use at any of our Fork U Family concept restaurants.”

If you can’t even come up with a good name, chances are the concept part is going to be exceedingly difficult, let alone the follow through.
The name of this company is fifth grade clever.
Yeah, I don’t think I could tell somebody that my employer was Fork U.
They’d probably say Fork U2.

The Taqueria Tsunami in Sandy Springs was good, but I went on a Friday night last year (late summer or early autumn) and it was dead inside. Our party of ten plus people and another table of six or so people and that was it. There were probably more employees than customers dining in. The location has a lot of vehicle traffic, but it’s very close to the Roswell Rd exit at I-285. Would be easier for drivers, especially driving southbound, if the location was further north by the Lowe’s. There have been a lot of different restaurants in this space over the years. The map above still lists the space as Double Zero Napoletana which moved from here in 2016.
