Mexican restaurant squeezes Lime Taqueria into name change.

Lime Fresh Mexican Grill is making its welcome to Atlanta know before it ever even opens.

The Florida-based Mexican restaurant chain is replacing Johnny Rockets’ Buckhead location on West Paces Ferry Road. Johnny Rockets was in that space for 20 years. Its lease came up for renewal early November and couldn’t meet the landlords increased rents, an area manager for several Atalanta Johnny Rockets told What Now Atlanta earlier this year.

Another restaurant, Lime Taqueria & Tequila Bar in Smyrna, was served with a copyright infringement lawsuit from Lime Fresh, according to  Kristine Kyser, Lime Taqueria’s general manager.

Lime Taqueria was forced to change its name, she said. It is now called Village Taqueria & Tequila Bar.

“This was simply a cosmetic change, as ‘Lime’ had been trademarked by another restaurant group that is now coming into the Atlanta market,” Kyser said.

Village Taqueria (formerly Lime) first opened in October, 2007 and is still open for business, despite the legal complications.  There have been no changes to ownership or management.

“Once we are able to thoroughly get the word out about the name change, we don’t feel there will any negative impact.”

Quattro Italian restaurant in Midtown near Piedmont Park, went through a similar suit served by a Chicago-based eastery earlier this year. It’s now called ParQ.
