Steve Josovitz of The Shumacher Group, Inc. Saturday exclusively shared details of the deal with What Now Atlanta (WNA).

Josovitz represented the burger joint and assisted the buyers, brothers Joseph and Matthew Hsiao of Hsiao Restaurant Group, in the purchase of the Berkeley Park restaurant.

The “high volume, well established and very profitable restaurant and bar,” was created by Top Chef Richard Blais with partners Barry Mills and Ron Stewart.

The sale includes all rights to the name, recipes, brand, and trademarks and Hsiao plans to grow Flip Burger nationally, Josovitz said.

Flip Burger in Birmingham is owned and operated by the restaurant’s founders in a separate licensing agreement, Matthew Hsiao in a telephone interview told WNA.

“Since our restaurant group is based in Atlanta, we can focus on building on the original Atlanta Flip Burger without being overextended,” Hsiao said.

Small cosmetic changes will be made to the Howell Mill Road restaurant as well as the addition of some new menu items.

“We want to keep the brand as true to the original Flip concept as possible while making small upgrades to make it that much better.”

Hsiao is looking to re-launch the brand in Atlanta and throughout the country, opening new locations in smaller spaces with “fair, comfortable leases.”

“Atlanta’s other Flip Burgers had to close because of bad leases,” Hsiao said.

The team will focus on the Howell Mill location for next first six to eight months and then open locations in areas like Buckhead, Alpharetta, and Kennesaw.

Eventually, Hsiao will offer franchising opportunities.

“We want to do it right and make sure each store we open is modeled after the original location, and make the right decisions to make sure what happened previously doesn’t happen to us.”

Chef Richard Blais will be making a return to the original restaurant in August for a cooking demo in conjunction with the launch of “new creative burgers and shakes.”

Hsiao has a portfolio of five Atlanta-area restaurants including the two original Flying Biscuit Cafes in Candler Park and Midtown.

News of the sale follows the closure of Flip Burger’s Buckhead outpost last year.

  1. Flip has drastically gone downhill since the sale. This place used to be booming. I was here for the opening, and this place has been a staple from my single days to my married, family days. I’d take all of my out of town friends here. It was a family favorite. Unfortunately, we’ve given it several tries over the last couple of months and both food quality and service have been subpar. We won’t be back. I can’t imagine it lasting much longer.

  2. Extremists disappointed.
