Yogurt or sandwich concept to open alongside La Fonda Latina on the Westside

UPDATE (May 31, 2011): LeRoy’s Fried Chicken slated for the Westside

It’s a flip of the coin on what will become of the former Autolite auto parts store at 1021 Howell Mill Road.

Gerald Frank, operations manager for all five La Fonda Latina locations including the one next door, told What Now Atlanta Sunday that Fellini’s Pizza Inc. will open a new concept in the former Autolite space.

“We are still in the concept phase,” Frank said. “It could open as a frozen yogurt shop or sandwich shop.”

One thing is for certain, the new concept will open this summer, according to Frank.

“If we go the yogurt route, the space will open as Three on the Tree,” Frank said. “The concept could change by tomorrow.”

What Now Atlanta spoke to West Midtown resident Meredith Mitchell on a trip to the location Sunday. Mitchell has lived at 1016 Lofts for a year and is excited something new is opening across the street.

Yoforia just opened down the way so I’d prefer a sandwich shop if I could choose,” Mitchell said.

  1. Agreed with everyone else. A new yogurt place makes no sense there. If it were ice cream, desert, bakery…maybe. It’s got to be really differentiated from Yoforia.

I wouldn’t mind a good sandwich/soup concept there. We’re actually lacking that on Howell Mill.

  2. I don’t know… I think the neighborhood would support a “healthy” treat place, especially so close to the park. And selfishly I want to be close enough to the pace to eat there everyday. 🙂

  3. Laura, I also live near there and would love to walk to a yogurt shop. I know everyone keeps complaining about all the yogurt shops but there isn’t one IN Midtown that is walkable. Reppici’s space might be too small but there’s plenty of empty space along Peachtree Street or 905 Juniper for one.

Anyways, they should open a sandwich place next to La Fonda. There’s no point in another yogurt shop with Yoforia right there.

  4. Agreed, re: healthy joint. Isn’t there a ton of vacant ground floor retail at the residential building that is adjacent to Quattro? Would love to see a high end healthy market/wine shop in there…

  5. Does anyone know the story behind the empty building on Piedmont Urbanist is referring to? (The red brick mixed use building just north of 10th and Piedmont on the park side)
