Is Decatur getting an all-American, Asian-run deli?

E@T2 Thai Kitchen, formerly Thai Me Up, has reportedly closed.

Decatur resident Carl Black, tweeted a photo displaying a coming soon sign for American Deli on the Thai restaurant’s front door Tuesday.

“A little less Thai in #DecaturGA,” Black tweeted.

What Now Atlanta was first alerted by Black in a tweet Saturday night, that the Thai restaurant at 225 East Ponce De Leon Avenue appeared closed.

“Is this confusingly-named #DecaturGA restaurant now closed? No signs of life on [Saturday] night.”

As the coming soon sign suggests, our guess is that E@T2 will reopen as American Deli, a franchise founded in 1989.

The deli’s first restaurant opened at South Dekalb Mall and now has more than 60 stores throughout Atlanta, Mississippi, Alabama, and Florida, according to the franchise’s website.

Calls to the American Deli corporate office Tuesday went unanswered.

  1. American Deli’s obnoxious ads always run on the video screens in MARTA stations. All I want to know is when my next train is coming!

  2. An American Deli? Talk about a major downgrade. American Deli is one of the worst places to eat in this city. Horrible sandwiches, average out of the bag fries, nothing fresh at all. I feel so bad for Decatur residents.

  3. Never eaten there, but Mad Russian – that’s a bit strong, “I feel so bad for Decatur residents.” I think they’ll muddle through somehow! LOL
