Will Their Hodgepodge Menu Be Worthy of a Standing Ovation?

Soon to be serving “international cuisine” in Buckhead, Encore restaurant is slated to open at 2520 Piedmont road northeast this October.

Taking space that was most recently Aliyah’s Island Grill, Encore restaurant will operate under brother and sister team, Oczavia Pittman and Cheryl Witherspoon, who will act as owner and executive chef.

“Encore restaurant will be your home away from home,” said Pittman who describes his new venture as an international grill serving tapas and entrees that remind you of home cooking.

Food items will include everything from seafood and burgers to a baked potato buffet, according to Witherspoon. The 3700 square foot space will have a lounge type feel with a sports centric bar. Valet parking is in place though Pittman says they are working on a lease for the parking lot next door.

“Everyone is going to like what they like and love what they love,” Pittman said when asked how Encore will compare to other Buckhead restaurants. “I can’t say anything bad about any of the restaurants in Buckhead.”

Coming from a musical background, Pittman has written songs, composed gospel music, and has done some R&B records. Banking on his sister’s experience as a chef, catering for Tyler Perry and the Zombieland movie most recently, after an initial interview we’re still deciding on what’s more dysfunctional: the menu or everything else?

Said Pittman as a closing thought, “We’re sure you’re going to want more.”– An encore perhaps?

  1. I couldn’t agree with you more, Chris. That whole area has been nothing more than unused property for years. We need something good to come in and hopefully stay for years to come. How about some new retail since the whole restaurant thing has not worked out?

  2. All these damn food shows. Makes everyone think they can open a restaurant. “Everyone is going to like what they like and love what they love,” Haha put this one on deathwatch

  4. The entire strip of this building, Shoney’s and even the Chick fil a were slated to be torn down and re-developed with a high rise condo project. The project was by the same developers at the City Center and sought construction financing and additional investors from mid-07 to early-08 before being canned.

  5. Good luck to the owners but, having only read this article, I would advise them to focus. Still, this location has had so many seedy failures it would take an awful lot for me to even step through the door.

  6. I lived in that area from 1995 to 2001. My roomate and I would joke about that building because it always had a restaurant that you couldn’t tell if it was out of business or not.

  7. I just read you guys comments and it reads pure foolery. How dare you make comments like that. Its a shame that yall are so quick to tear people down. Please remember professionals built the titanic but amateurs built the ark and which one was more successful??

  8. Great job I hope everything work out u would don’t let people tear u down about your business people shouldn’t comment negative things about someone else accomplishment.

  9. I am a Chef in the Atlanta area and recently went to Encore for a Comedy Show. When we arrive we where greeted by valet and not at all surprised to see a Phantom, Lamborghini, and Ferrari, just to name a few after entering the place my friends and I were amazed at the atmosphere, food, and the entertainment. The comedian was actually funny which was a definite plus. Based on the cars we saw on arrival I was not shocked to see several celebrities there having a good time as well. To all of the people with their negative comments I for the owners sake am going to say that Encore is an amazing restaurant as well as atmosphere and I will defiantly be returning there when the officially open in 2weeks, and if its up your alley I think everyone should go who likes to have a good time and see what an amazing place they have turned it into.

  10. I visited on 7/10/11. I co sign everything the above person just said. i got there too late for the comedy show so I couldnt get a seat but still was able to listen to the comedy outside but there are so many pretty women there I couldnt pay attention no how. SO DAMN FINE!
