The new building would be constructed in conjunction with a 10,000-square-foot addition to the 105-year-old hotel, including a new two-story “accessory” restaurant, and could be 20 stories tall.
A rendering including in the plans only shows 10 floors.
New York City-based RD Management would construct the new tower, at 216 Peachtree Street NW, on the land currently home to the Peachtree Center Transit Station entrance.
MARTA recently awarded an RFP to RD Mangement for the project which includes a 99-year ground lease for the parcel that currently occupies the freestanding entrance to the transit station.
RD Management would include a new entrance to the MARTA station as part of the transit-oriented development.
Peachtree Center Transit Station provides access to both the Red and Gold rail lines and is located at the intersection of Peachtree Street, Carnegie Way, and Forsyth Street.
The $35,000,000 project would be comprised of retail, hospitality, and residential components, according to recent Invest Atlanta documents (Invest Atlanta is a “project partner”).
It would total 105,000 square feet.
RD Management did immediately respond to WNA’s request for comment Friday.
The privately held real estate development and management organization first announced plans for the development at the end of 2018.
At the time of the announcement, plans only called for 6,000 square feet of retail and “discussions” to “potentially add an additional 56,000 square feet of residential space above the retail.”
The Ellis Hotel is now part of Marriott’s Tribute Portfolio family.
RD added the hotel, at 176 Peachtree Street NW, to the family of independent boutique hotels in April.
As part of its new status, Ellis Hotel guests can now earn and redeem Marriott Bonvoy Rewards points during their stays.
