PNC Bank this week filed plans with City of Atlanta to raze the structure that houses the quick-service restaurant as a first step in constructing a new branch at the Piedmont Heights site from the ground up.

A PNC spokesperson confirmed the plans in an email to What Now Atlanta (WNA) Thursday and said the bank’s new branch could open in 2018.

Plans specifically call to “scrape the existing Einstein Bagels building and site and construct a new PNC Bank site, based on the current Belt Line District requirements.”

An estimated $393,153.65 could be spent readying the Einstein Bagels site for the new bank. Once complete, the new PNC would include two kiosk ATMs that are “detached from the building.”

A manager at Einsteins Bagels was unable to confirm the plans because “corporate hasn’t mentioned anything” but told WNA he heard rumors through the Neighborhood Association.

It’s unclear if Einstein Bagels would re-open elsewhere as the restaurant chain has not returned WNA’s request for comment.
