Plans call for the conversion of a 15,000-square-foot warehouse, at 2197 Irvindale Way, into the planned distillery and event space.

A public hearing for the project is slated for March 14.

The Distillery of Modern Art, slated to open in fall 2019, “will introduce new experiences centered around innovative spirits in a modern setting,” according to the company’s website.

It will feature “an artful take” on vodka, flavored vodka, American gin, bourbon whiskey, rye whiskey, corn whiskey, and a digestivo.

The building itself, designed by BoggsVickers, is meant to be a “modern art piece” in and of itself, according to the plans.

“Inspired by the vibrant and modern Atlanta community, the building will serve as the backdrop to a contemporary event space for special occasions where traditional simply won’t do.”

More information will be available following the hearing in March, a company spokesperson in an email Friday told What Now Atlanta.

  1. Chamblee is being overtaken by these artsy beer and alcohol places and little else. Still no real coffeehouse or any real cafe, no pizza by slice (non corporate) establishment, lack of family restaurants that are not near Buckhead prices). No real juice bar. No theater or any place for the Arts. More car dealers by square mile than anywhere in GA!

  2. We love moonbirds for coffee! For beer, I feel like there is only one establishment over by Gus’s and Im not sure they are even open yet. What we need is to continue growing our nightlife. Totally wish there was more pizza options and a juice bar. Its our understanding that with the city’s new master plan, theater is something they have in the plans, as is a place for the arts. This new distillery is saying its all about the local community and the Arts. So hopefully they stick to that!

    1. I believe hopstix has a brewery and the new brewery by Gus’s. Plus you can find a million micro brews served at any of the new expensive restaurants. There’s just so much still lacking in this area and the fast rate of growth with so many of the same kinda “yuppie” themed places is boring. Need more variety and less car lots would help. We have about 30 car lots and auto shops along peachtree blvd corridor.

  3. Its a good thing, Jeff! Embrace the future. Acceptance prob doesn’t include calling neighbors who care for the community, Yuppies. Just sayin. As far as car places, the city of Chamblee has been doing fantastic work slowly moving the car dealers out closer to the highway.
