No, it’s not a new Bravo T.V. series but it is dishwasher and husband safe

Signs for Dimes just put the finishing touches on the mural type marquee for the Old Forth Ward’s newest retailer.

Desperate Housewares, a home furnishings store, is scheduled to open on April 1.

Located at 241 Boulevard SE, the retailer will offer “total home furnishings for the self-conscious homemaker, entertainer, foodie who desires good things with a look and flair.”

To give you an idea of what they’ll carry, here are their product categories: Furniture Dining and entertaining dinnerware, cocktail and bar glasses, server-ware, table linens, kitchen and food equipment, decorating and accessories and hand-painted porcelain china.

Their collections include various antique, collectible, retro, vintage and contemporary pieces.

Is this area desperate for a home furnishings retailer or is this retailer gonna flop?– tell us!

  1. Their prices will probably determine how well they do here. This sounds like a great name for a gently-used, second-hand shop, and not antiques & collectibles. Definitely gonna give it a shot though, I’m glad something has moved into this building!

  2. I’m all about the cute household tchotchke, but I think success or failure at this location will be based more on price than adorability.

  3. The lack of flat screen TVs and Red Monkey jeans should keep the place from getting a rock thrown through the front door. Best of luck!

  4. Bums and crack heads will be your door greeters here. Something is better than nothing until they can redo this corner with something with more density.

  5. Wonderful! There was already a really good (but totally under the radar) furniture store in this location, they just never had a sign and were open sporadically. It was called Greenhouse, and the woman who ran it painted furniture under the name The Painted Horse. I hope she’s still involved, because she had some great stuff! It “closed” several months ago, but she still used the location as a studio and would sometimes sell her repainted furniture in the parking lot on the weekends.

  6. You guys should see what’s going on with the Barcelona restaurant that was supposed to open down this street on Highland Avenue, in the former Zaya space. Big AVAILABLE signs all around it now. Hmmmmm.

  7. Sounds very cool! I will definitely be checking it out!! You gotta support anyone who is stepping out this economy! Support the brave!!

  8. Sketchy location to be honest. I don’t see them getting a lot of foot traffic. There are a number of high crime and drug areas very close to there, not safe at night. Hopefully there will be some improved development nearby to make this sustainable. Peachtree would have been better, right around 5th through 8th street.

  9. Many people from all walks of life shopped in the previous store with no issues. No the place may not get a lot of foot traffic, but with thousands of cars passing by to get on the interstate, they should, at the very least, garner the attention of those driving by. Foot traffic doesn’t tend to spend money like those who are on a mission to find an item.

Peachtree may have been better, but keep in mind that a “better” location also includes a higher price tag.

At any rate, glad another business is opening and can’t wait to see what’s in store. Congrats to the owner and now I have a spot to consign some of my used pieces!

  10. This stuff looks great! Thanks for the heads up. I see things on his website that I want now. Guess I’m a Desperate Housewares kind of gal already.

  11. Hi to all, just wanted to wish the new owner GREAT BUSINESS TIMES. As the former owner I would like to say that I had nearly eleven years at this location and found without a doubt great support! I have never been robbed or broke into. The clients who frequented my store at this location have been from many walks of life (movie companies, small shops, home owners, students and dealers from higher end antique shops. Like any facet of life we find ourselves in, there can or cannot be problems, so I truly hope that all people who enjoy life get out and venture. I think the new owner has a different style from what I offered, so your experience there will be new. Again,I say thanks to all who supported my business and I hope you come and support Life, he is a really nice guy! I also want to say your store name is fabulous and I know a thing or two about great names. Joyce Croffitt aka Antiquing Atlanta, The Painted Horse, Greenhouse and my new favorite, The Creole Cottage.

  12. Hi all,

We are the team of muralists that painted the signs for Desperate Housewares, and have been leaving our mark throughout Atlanta with our creative murals and signage. The owner (Life) was one of our favorite clients to work with to date. He has a real vision, and we were excited to be apart of something new and inspiring in the Old Fourth Ward, which is the neighborhood of our residence. We loved painting the name on the building, we thought the name, Desperate Housewares, was so clever and fitting. The designs on the side of the building (the colorful circles with housewares in them) is a design that was made by Signs for Dimes and inspired by one of Life’s cocktail glasses that we saw when we were at a business meeting before the mural went up. We wish Desperate Housewares all the best, and we no doubts on it being a great success.

If this has inspired anyone to start their own business, or if any of you business owners would like to revamp your business with some custom, creative signage by Signs for Dimes, I encourage you to do so. We are reliable and creative. Get in contact with us to view our portfolio and discuss some quality creative advertising that we can bring to you and your business.

Thank you for all the compliments and kind words. We are working hard to beautify Atlanta.
